Company History

Founded in 1964, St. John’s Community Health (SJCH) began as a small, volunteer‑run pediatric clinic operating out of the back of St. John’s Episcopal Church in South Central Los Angeles. What started with just two volunteer providers has grown into one of the region’s largest and most respected Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) networks.

Over the decades, St. John’s has expanded its reach to serve communities across South, Central, and East Los Angeles, as well as the Inland Empire, providing comprehensive medical, dental, behavioral health, and supportive services to patients regardless of income, insurance, or immigration status.

Today, SJCH remains deeply rooted in its founding belief that health care is a human right, not a privilege. The organization continues to grow through community‑based clinics, school‑based health centers, mobile units, and innovative wellness and resilience programs—while staying committed to health equity, culturally responsive care, and serving the most vulnerable populations
