Job description

Lead Clinical Excellence. Advance Community Health. Shape the Future of Care in South Jersey.

Southern Jersey Family Medical Centers, Inc. (SJFMC), a Federally Qualified Health Center serving communities throughout Southern New Jersey, is seeking an accomplished and mission-driven VP/Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to join our senior executive leadership team.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced physician executive to help shape the clinical vision and future of a community-based healthcare organization committed to expanding access, improving health outcomes, and delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to the communities we serve.

The VP/Chief Medical Officer provides strategic and clinical leadership across SJFMC's medical, dental, behavioral health, and pharmacy services and plays an integral role in advancing clinical quality, provider performance, patient safety, organizational growth, and the overall patient experience.

Job Responsibilities

As a senior executive and physician leader, the VP/Chief Medical Officer will help translate SJFMC's mission and strategic priorities into an integrated clinical strategy across the organization.
This role requires a leader who can operate successfully at both the executive and clinical levels—providing organizational leadership while maintaining meaningful connection to patient care and the providers responsible for delivering it.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide executive leadership and direction for SJFMC's clinical strategic vision.
- Oversee clinical services across medical, dental, behavioral health, and pharmacy operations.
- Lead and support the organization's Quality Assurance/Improvement Plan and promote a culture of continuous clinical improvement.
- Advance quality, patient safety, evidence-based care, clinical effectiveness, and positive patient outcomes.
- Provide leadership, supervision, and professional guidance to clinical providers, including Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.
- Partner with Human Resources and organizational leadership in physician and provider recruitment, engagement, retention, and development.
- Establish and reinforce clinical standards, performance expectations, and accountability.
- Collaborate with operational leadership to strengthen access to care, clinical workflows, provider effectiveness, productivity, and the patient experience.
- Support clinical policy development, peer review, risk management, regulatory compliance, and organizational quality initiatives.
- Use clinical and operational data to identify opportunities and drive measurable improvement.
- Foster collaboration across clinical disciplines and administrative leadership.
- Represent SJFMC's clinical mission and priorities with internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain an active connection to SJFMC's mission through direct patient care at SJFMC health centers.

Qualifications

The Physician Executive We Are Seeking
We are looking for a physician leader who brings both clinical credibility and executive leadership capability.
The successful candidate will be a collaborative and strategic leader who can build trust with physicians and advanced practice providers, develop high-performing clinical teams, lead through change, and effectively partner with executive and operational leaders.
This individual will understand that successful clinical leadership in a community health environment extends beyond the examination room. It requires the ability to align people, quality, operations, strategy, and mission to improve both organizational performance and patient outcomes.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess:
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
- Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Family Practice.
- Active, unrestricted New Jersey medical license.
- Approximately 5–7 years of relevant experience, including progressive clinical leadership responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience leading physicians and other clinical professionals.
- Strong knowledge of clinical quality, patient safety, healthcare operations, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent leadership, communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to successfully operate within a multidisciplinary, community-based healthcare environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to improving access and outcomes for diverse and medically underserved populations.
Advanced education or demonstrated experience in medical management, healthcare law, or quality improvement is highly valued.
An MBA or MHA is strongly preferred.

- Monday through Friday
- Primarily daytime business hours, with flexibility required based on organizational and clinical needs
- Position is based in Marlton, New Jersey, with leadership presence across SJFMC health center locations as needed
