The endoscopy unit operates with a collaborative team approach where physicians and nurses work closely together to deliver high-quality patient care.Opportunity:
Physician - Internal Medicine - GastroenterologyJob Details:
- Locum Tenens opportunity available ASAP on an ongoing basis
- Shift hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the endoscopy unit with an unpaid one-hour lunch break
- Upper endoscopy procedures are approximately 30 minutes; colonoscopy procedures are approximately 30 minutes; combined procedures are approximately 60 minutes
- Most cases are performed with moderate sedation; the physician and nurse administer sedation themselves without anesthesia support — candidates must be comfortable with moderate sedation administration
- Occasional anesthesiology support may be available
- Must be licensed in MD or hold an IMLC license
- Board certification required
- ACLS and BLS certifications required
- Estimated credentialing timeframe is 60-90 days
- Nearest airports: DCA, IAD, BWI
- Required procedural skills include:
- Upper GI endoscopy with biopsy, foreign body removal, and fulguration of bleeder (cautery vs. laser)
- Small bowel biopsy
- Lower GI endoscopy
- Flexible sigmoidoscopy
- Colonoscopy with biopsy and excision of polyp
