Job description

EMERGENCY MEDICINE PHYSICIAN

Alabama Gulf Coast – Mobile & Baldwin Counties, AL

Position Highlights

  • Work-Life Balance: Full-time is 12 shifts a month, with no home call. Dedicated nocturnists cover most nights, so new physicians work few, if any, overnights. Two weekends off a month, plus priority PTO and holiday requests.
  • Desirable Practice Setting: Join the largest private emergency medicine group in South Alabama. Staff 5 Infirmary Health EDs (3 hospital-based and 2 freestanding) seeing 17,000–46,000 visits a year each, with STEMI and certified stroke care in-house at the main hospitals.
  • Ideal Work Environment: Double physician coverage at the busiest sites, daily APP support at every site, and a mix of high- and lower-acuity shifts. Epic EMR with AI-assisted Dragon dictation, and bedside ultrasound everywhere.
  • Favorable Call Schedule: Shift-based only, with no home call. Nights are mostly covered by nocturnists, and extra shifts are always available for those who want them.
  • Culture & Support: A 100% physician-owned, democratic group of 40 physicians and 20 APPs, founded in 1996. APPs review every patient with the supervising physician, and physicians never sign charts for patients they didn't help treat. Strong specialty backup and internal transfer pathways across the system.
  • Partnership Opportunities: Partnership track after two years in a group where physicians make the decisions.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive Compensation: Total package over $470K a year. Full-time physicians average about $400K in earnings working about 140 hours a month. Hourly pay with a 15% night differential, and full-time nocturnists average $300+ an hour. The group shares real W-2s and pay stubs with candidates.
  • Competitive Bonus Opportunity: At the two hospital-based main sites, about a third of pay comes from a productivity bonus pool, paid quarterly.
  • Sign-On Bonus: $50,000 commencement bonus paid upfront, with a 3-year commitment.
  • Comprehensive Benefits Package: BCBS health insurance, a 401(k) with a 4% match, and group-paid malpractice ($2M/$4M) with tail coverage.
  • Relocation Assistance: Included in the $50,000 commencement bonus.
  • Professional Development: CME, licensing, subscriptions, and other professional expenses can be paid pre-tax through the group.
  • Additional Perks: No non-compete, simple employment agreements, and full pay transparency.

Qualifications

  • Degree: MD or DO.
  • Certifications: ABEM board-certified or board-eligible preferred. Board-certified Family Medicine physicians with significant ED experience will be considered.
  • Licensure: Alabama medical license, or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Skillset: Full-scope emergency medicine, including bedside ultrasound, plus comfort supervising and working alongside APPs.
  • Experience: All career stages welcome, including new graduates. Non-EM-trained physicians should have meaningful experience in EDs of similar volume and acuity.
  • Sponsorship: Visa sponsorship (H-1B or J-1) is not available.

About the Community

  • Top Ranked Location: Baldwin County is one of the fastest-growing counties in the nation and ranks among the 10 fastest-growing U.S. metros this decade. It grew 2.3% last year, nearly four times Alabama's average.
  • Medium-Sized Metro: Practice across Mobile and Baldwin Counties, on both sides of Mobile Bay. Most physicians live in the bayside towns of Fairhope, Daphne and Spanish Fort.
  • Lifestyle & Affordability: Coastal living at a cost well below national averages, with some of the lowest property taxes in the country.
  • Prime Location: Live on Mobile Bay, less than an hour from the white-sand beaches of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Enjoy year-round boating, fishing, golf and outdoor recreation.
  • Education: Fairhope, Daphne and Spanish Fort have some of Baldwin County's highest-rated public schools. Fairhope High has ranked among Alabama's top 10 high schools. Higher education includes the University of South Alabama in Mobile.
  • Community Attributes: Safe, family-friendly towns with walkable downtowns, local shops and restaurants, and a close-knit community feel.
  • Easy Travel: Mobile's new downtown airport terminal is set to open in early 2027. Pensacola, Florida, and New Orleans are within easy driving distance.
  • Vibrant Lifestyle: Home of America's original Mardi Gras, with year-round festivals, a lively arts scene, and fresh Gulf seafood.
