The G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center, Jackson, MS is seeking a full-time Physician (Urologist).

Jackson is the capital city of Mississippi and known as "The City with a Soul." The greater Jackson area is located in the center of the southeast United States. Jackson is within 500 miles of 15 states and 76 Metropolitan areas which is roughly 39% of the nation’s population. Jackson is the intersection for Interstates 55 and 20, and all incorporated communities are within 45 miles of Jackson and are traversed by major highways.

Job Responsibilities

~ Assess and manage patients in Urology Clinic, as well as wards, emergency department, and nursing home.
~ Provide pre-operative, operative, and post-operative care to urology patients.
~ Participate in multidisciplinary activities involving the treatment plan and discharge plan of patents.
~ Provide guidance and clinical supervision of the nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and health technicians assigned to the Surgical Service when appropriate.
~ When requested, serve as the Acting Chief, Surgical Services during the absence of the Chief, Surgical Services.
~ Assist in the development, implementation, and expansion of programs in Surgical Services. appropriate policies, service agreements, procedures, plans, and professional standards that guide and support Primary Care Service and programs.
~ Participate in various facility programs designed to enhance and improve the delivery of patient care services, to include but not limited to, Process Action Teams, Root Cause Analysis, and Peer Review.
~ Trainee education and supervision (likely). Board certification is required for supervision of medical students/residents/fellows.
~ Participate on committees.
~ Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Work Schedule:  Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm
