Chief of Surgery Opportunity – Lewiston, ME
Position Highlights:
Full-time physician leadership opportunity with protected administrative time (0.5 FTE)
Serve in a key executive leadership role within a regional health system
Partner within an administrative dyad structure to lead hospital-based surgical services
Oversight of section chiefs and collaboration across multiple departments and service lines
Opportunity to shape strategic growth, physician leadership development, and quality initiatives
Leadership Responsibilities:
Provide operational and strategic leadership for surgical and hospital-based service lines
Collaborate on development and oversight of operational and capital budgets
Lead initiatives focused on patient safety, quality outcomes, and access to care
Support physician performance management and professional development
Drive integration and optimization of electronic medical record utilization and patient access initiatives
Foster a patient-centered culture across hospital-based departments and practices
Collaborate with physician, nursing, and administrative leadership to improve care transitions and operational reliability
Participate in long-term strategic planning and implementation across the health system
Promote leadership development and mentorship of future physician leaders
Administrative & Clinical Environment:
Leadership role within a collaborative matrixed healthcare system
Direct reporting relationship to system Chief Medical Officer
Opportunity to influence organizational strategy and system-wide surgical operations
Emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration and operational excellence
Qualifications:
MD or DO degree required
Active unrestricted Maine medical license
Board Certification required
Active medical staff membership with unrestricted privileges
Demonstrated clinical excellence and strong medical staff citizenship
Strong communication, leadership, and collaboration skills
Experience or interest in operational leadership, budgeting, and healthcare administration preferred
Ability to work effectively within dyad and matrix leadership structures
