Assignment Details
Dates: As soon as credentialed–ongoing
Schedule: Beeper call; 1:2 rotation with a 30-minute response requirement
Coverage type: Inpatient cardiothoracic surgery call, admissions, and rounding
Volume: Approximately three patients per shift; call activity lists 3–6 patients seen and one admission
Setting: Level II trauma hospital; six service beds listed
Patient coverage: Assigned and unassigned patients
Support: Four APPs; PAs take first call
EMR: Cerner
Credentialing: Approximately 90 days
Clinical Details
Required: Open and endoscopic cardiovascular/thoracic surgery
Required: On-pump and off-pump CABG
Required: Congenital defect procedures, valve repair/replacement, and cardiac/aortothoracic aneurysm repair
Required: Chest wall and pleural procedures
Required: Ventilator management and acute volume/blood pressure management
Required: Central, arterial, and pulmonary artery catheter placement; IABP insertion
Preferred: Lung resection/VATS, esophageal and diaphragm surgery, and carotid endarterectomy
LVAD, permanent pacemaker, and AICD placement not required
APP supervision required; no resident teaching
Requirements
BC in Cardiothoracic Surgery
Active South Carolina medical license or IMLC
ACLS and BLS
Experience performing the required surgical and critical care scope
Ability to respond within 30 minutes
