A hospital in the Charlottesville, Virginia area needs a neurosurgeon for urgent 24-hour call coverage while it recruits a permanent surgeon. $3,400 for each 24-hour call day and $599.83 an hour for callbacks, in weekly blocks from October 19 through January 4. Travel and expenses are covered.

Job Responsibilities

Inpatient neurosurgery call, 7am to 7am, covering the hospital plus phone-only transfer consults for a sister hospital. General neurosurgery, general spine, and cranial work, with a daily caseload of about 5 to 7 patients and 7 ORs. Weekends average 2 callbacks and 1 to 2 admissions. Weeknights average 5 to 8 calls a day and 3 to 4 admissions a week. You work with 2 flexible physicians and a PA, and the EMR is Epic.

Qualifications

Board certified in neurosurgery, with at least 2 years of experience. An active Virginia license in hand, since Virginia is not an IMLC state. A DEA with a Virginia address. A clean background with every malpractice claim disclosed, including dismissed claims. COVID vaccination required, with medical and religious exemptions only. The hospital's credentialing process applies.

Working Hours

24-hour call, 7am to 7am, in weekly blocks that run Monday 7am to the next Monday 7am. Blocks: the weeks of Oct 19 and Oct 26, then Nov 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30, and Dec 7, 14, 21, and 28, ending Jan 4, 2027.
