Neurosurgeon - Adult Cranial & Spine Trauma Call - Santa Paula, CA
Job at a glance
Job description
Aya Locums is seeking a Neurosurgeon for ongoing adult trauma call coverage at a Level II Trauma Center in Santa Paula, California.
This is a long-term need built around approximately one week of 24-hour beeper call every 1-2 months with no clinic responsibilities. Coverage is primarily intended to provide scheduled relief for the full-time Neurosurgeon, making this a strong option for a physician who prefers predictable blocks rather than a traditional full-time schedule.
The clinical focus is adult cranial and spine trauma. The Neurosurgeon should have current or recent Level I or Level II trauma experience with hands-on involvement in both cranial and spine emergencies - including emergent operative cases and high cervical injuries.
The scope includes procedures such as decompressive craniectomy, evacuation of epidural and subdural hematomas, ICP monitor or EVD placement, lumbar drain placement, spinal decompression, and cervical, thoracic and lumbar fusion.
The ICU is closed with ICU physicians serving as primary. The Neurosurgery service is also supported by APPs, Trauma Surgery, Hospitalists and affiliated medical residents. The hospital has expanded OR and ICU capabilities with technology including Brainlab, Loop-X spinal navigation and Zeiss microscopes.
Call is 24 hours by beeper. Current information indicates approximately 3-4 callback cases per week. Coverage is expected to begin October 5, 2026 and continue on an ongoing basis.
Board Certified or Board Eligible Neurosurgeons will be considered. An active California license is required.
Recent hands-on neurotrauma experience will be important for consideration - particularly current or recent trauma call, cranial and spine case mix, high cervical trauma experience and recent performance of the procedures relevant to this coverage.
If the schedule catches your attention but you would want to understand the call burden, clinical expectations or compensation before deciding whether it makes sense, I would be happy to discuss those details directly.
