Setting: Inpatient-only general surgery call coverage
Start Date: January 2026 (credentialing dependent; fast-track available)
Duration: Ongoing coverage with multiple January call dates open; potential for continued blocks
Shifts Available: 24-hour call
Shift Volume:
- Phone consults: 2–3
- Patients seen: 1–2
- Admissions: ~1
- Callback rate: approximately 40%
Shifts Per Provider: One provider per call shift
Call: Beeper call | Required response time: 15 minutes
Orientation: Provided upon arrival
Practice & Facility Information
Work Environment:
Community hospital environment serving North-Central Tennessee. The General Surgery service is fully inpatient-focused with predictable call patterns and manageable daily volume. Providers cover assigned inpatients and surgical emergencies without clinic duties or outpatient requirements.
Procedural Mix Includes:
- Adult general surgery
- Laparoscopic surgery
- Appendectomy
- Cholecystectomy
- Hernia repairs
- Upper and lower endoscopy
- Ventilation management
- Chest tubes
- Central lines
Support Staff:
- RN support
- No resident or APP supervision required
EMR System: MEDHOST
Travel & Lodging: Covered
Malpractice: Provided
Credentialing: ~14 days
Certifications Required
- Active Tennessee license or IMLC
- Board Certified / Board Eligible in General Surgery
- BLS required
- Recent experience in core adult general surgery and essential procedures
