Locum – Physician – Cardiovascular Surgery

📍 Location: Colorado Springs, CO

🕒 Schedule:

• 24-hour call shifts – Friday to Sunday

• Additional weekday call coverage during vacation periods

• Call Hours: 6:00 AM – 6:00 AM

Opportunity Overview:

This is a high-acuity locum cardiovascular surgery call coverage opportunity at a Level 1 trauma center in Colorado Springs. The hospital is seeking a board-certified Cardiovascular Surgeon to manage a full spectrum of complex cardiac procedures, including CABG, valve replacements, ECMO, TAVRs, and more. The role requires confident solo coverage with no other thoracic surgeons on-site during call shifts.

Practice Details:

• Patients Per Day:

  • 1–2 new admissions

  • 8–10 ICU patients

  • 1–2 surgical cases/day

• Hospital Beds: 400 total

• ICU Beds: 12

• Team: 2 Surgeons, 5 Mid-levels

• Support Staff: ICU, EPIC EMR, advanced cardiac care team

• Supervision: Expected to provide clinical oversight to APPs and staff

Required Procedures:

• Open Cardiothoracic Surgery

• CABG (On-pump & Off-pump)

• Valvular Repair & Replacement

• Congenital Defects (ASD, VSD, PFO)

• Aortic Aneurysm & Thoracic Repairs

• TAVR, MitraClip, Lead Extractions

• ECMO Cannulation (for stabilization/transport to academic center)

Preferred Skills (Strong Plus):

• Acute volume/BP management

• Central & arterial line insertion

• PA catheter, IABP placement

Travel & Logistics:

• Flights: Reimbursed

• Lodging: Reimbursed

• Car Rental: Economy car cap

• Mileage: Reimbursed

Candidate Requirements (Must Be Noted at Submission):

• Board Certified in Cardiovascular Surgery – REQUIRED

• Active Colorado license or IMLC – REQUIRED

• BLS & ACLS (AHA only) – REQUIRED; if not AHA, note willingness to obtain

• Clean background / No malpractice history – REQUIRED
