Job Summary
We are seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Rheumatologist for a 100% virtual Locum Tenens opportunity providing specialty care to adult patients through Tribal and Urban Indian health clinics. This is a 1099 independent contractor position offering $150 per virtual encounter, with no required travel or on-site clinic days. Patients are seen at their local clinic with an on-site clinical presenter assisting with the physical examination while the Rheumatologist provides care remotely. The ideal candidate will have prior telehealth experience, strong expertise in autoimmune and musculoskeletal conditions, and experience managing DMARD and biologic therapies. Additional state licensure may be required based on patient location, with licensing costs potentially reimbursed.

Job Responsibilities
Provide scheduled virtual rheumatology consultations and follow-up visits for adult patients.
Evaluate, diagnose, and manage autoimmune, inflammatory, and musculoskeletal conditions.
Direct the on-site clinical presenter through joint, skin, nail, and musculoskeletal examinations.
Assess disease activity and develop individualized treatment plans.
Initiate, adjust, and monitor DMARD, biologic, and targeted therapies.
Review laboratory results, imaging, and other diagnostic studies.
Provide asynchronous eConsults for appropriate rheumatology referrals.
Monitor patients remotely between visits, including laboratory monitoring and medication management.
Develop clear shared-care and monitoring plans for local primary care teams.
Identify patients requiring urgent or in-person evaluation and coordinate appropriate referrals.
Collaborate with primary care providers, pharmacists, and other specialists as needed.
Provide clinical education and guidance to local healthcare teams.
Document patient encounters and treatment plans accurately in the electronic health record.
Support appropriate use of specialty medications, infusion therapy, prior authorization, and specialty pharmacy resources.
Qualifications
MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
Completion of an accredited Internal Medicine residency.
Completion of a Rheumatology fellowship.
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Rheumatology.
Active, unrestricted physician medical license in the state(s) where patients are located.
Current partner-site locations include California and Oregon; candidates must be licensed in applicable state(s) or be willing to obtain additional state licensure.
Prior telehealth practice experience.
Experience diagnosing and managing adult rheumatologic and autoimmune conditions.
Experience initiating and monitoring biologic and targeted synthetic DMARD therapies.
Experience with pre-treatment infection screening and ongoing laboratory monitoring.
Ability to conduct and direct a musculoskeletal examination through video with an on-site clinical presenter.
Strong clinical judgment and ability to determine when an in-person evaluation is necessary.
Ability to work effectively in a remote, resource-variable clinical environment.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to work respectfully with American Indian and Alaska Native patients, families, and Tribal health teams.
