The Millington Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) has an opening for a Rheumatologist that offers a dual academic appointment with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC). The CBOC is a part of the Department of Veterans Affairs and falls under the Memphis VA Medical Center. It’s one of the largest of twelve community-based clinics within the Memphis VA clinical network.

The Memphis VA is a 1a complexity tertiary care VA healthcare system located in one of the fastest growing Veteran population regions in the United States. The main campus provides comprehensive care to almost 69,000 Veterans in a 52-county area of Western Tennessee, Northern Mississippi, and Northeast Arkansas. It includes 236 inpatient beds with a 26-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as extensive education and research programs. Comprehensive primary, secondary, and tertiary health care is provided in vast areas of medicine, to include but not limited to cardiology, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, neurology, oncology, rheumatology, geriatrics, women’s health, and dentistry.

Job Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:
• Clinical practice, supervising and teaching fellows, residents, and medical students
• Consultation to non-rheumatology services for hospitalized patients with rheumatology concerns
• Provide outpatient rheumatology consultations and clinical appointments for veterans with both acute and routine rheumatology concerns.
• Ensure that treatment is safe, timely, efficient, efficacious, evidence-based, and patient-centered
• Share attending call responsibilities with other Rheumatologists/Internal Medicine Specialists in covering some nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Round with the teams of fellows, residents, and medical students as regards to inpatient settings.
• Clinical activities may include, but are not limited to, clinical assessment and evaluation-inpatient and outpatient. Healthcare management of assigned veteran patients with acute and chronic illnesses. Ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic studies. Ordering consultations and referrals-inpatient and outpatient. Patient follow-up as appropriate. Health promotion and disease prevention. Patient, family, and staff education and counseling. Clinical research.
• Administrative activities, including performance improvement activities, research, and non-clinical tasks as assigned. Exhibits leadership in initializing changes in patient care programs based on current concepts and findings from research and studies. Stays informed on developments in the management and treatment of diseases and illnesses through continuing medical education.

Qualifications

Requirements:
• MD/DO
• Board Eligible/Board Certified in Rheumatology
• Eligible for Faculty Appointment with UTHSC
• Full and unrestricted license from ANY state
• Current BLS/CPR Certification
• US Citizenship: Non-citizens may be considered when it’s not possible to recruit qualified citizens
• Be proficient in the written and spoken use of the English language

Working Hours

Highlights of this position include:

• Work Schedule: Mon-Fri: 8AM-4:30PM
