Job description

We are seeking Pulmonary Critical Care Physicians for ongoing locum coverage across multiple hospitals in Colorado. This is a high-acuity inpatient opportunity covering Level I, II, and III Trauma facilities, with approximately 30 shifts per month.

Assignment Details

  • Pulmonary Critical Care / Intensivist coverage
  • Each physician is assigned to only one facility per 12-hour shift
  • Maximum of 7 consecutive coverage days

Schedule

  • Day coverage: 7:00 AM–7:00 PM
  • Day shifts include inpatient rounding
  • Night coverage varies by location:
    • Level I Trauma site: 7:00 PM–7:00 AM in-house
    • Level II Trauma site: 7:00 PM–7:00 AM offsite pager call
    • Level III Trauma site: 7:00 PM–7:00 AM offsite pager call

Practice Setting

  • Inpatient Pulmonary Critical Care
  • Level I, II, and III Trauma hospitals
  • 48 ICU beds listed
  • Epic EMR
  • Onsite laboratory and X-ray

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Inpatient Pulmonary and Critical Care management
  • ICU rounding and management
  • Mechanical ventilation management
  • Invasive ventilation, including ETT/NT/tracheostomy
  • Non-invasive ventilation, including BiPAP/CPAP
  • Diagnostic bronchoscopy
  • Bronchoscopy with BAL
  • Chest tube insertion
  • Central line insertion
  • Arterial line insertion
  • Thoracentesis
  • Therapeutic bronchoscopy with foreign-body extraction

Critical Care Responsibilities

Physicians should be comfortable managing high-acuity medical ICU patients, including:

  • Cardiac arrest/failure
  • Respiratory arrest/failure
  • Sepsis
  • Metabolic disorders
  • Renal failure
  • Overdose/poisoning
  • Other critically ill medical patients
  • Pre- and postoperative surgical patients, including general, vascular, orthopedic, neurological, and cardiovascular/thoracic cases

Additional preferred procedures include PA catheter insertion, dialysis catheter placement, diagnostic/therapeutic taps, lumbar puncture, and paracentesis.

Team Structure

  • Approximately 20 Pulmonologists in the group
  • Approximately 10 APPs in the group
  • Other Pulmonologists are onsite with the locum at the Level I and Level II locations
  • No other Pulmonologist is onsite with the locum at the Level III location

Requirements

  • Pulmonary Critical Care Physician
  • Recent Level I Trauma experience required
  • Must be comfortable independently managing ICU patients
  • Critical Care/Intensivist experience required
  • Proficiency with required pulmonary and Critical Care procedures
  • Epic experience required

Ideal Candidate

A Pulmonary Critical Care physician with recent Level I Trauma experience who is comfortable managing high-acuity ICU patients and independently performing advanced pulmonary and Critical Care procedures. Physicians with strong Epic experience and the flexibility to rotate among multiple Colorado facilities are particularly desired.
