Pulmonary and Critical Care Physician (MD/DO)

Position Summary

The Pulmonary and Critical Care Physician provides comprehensive care for patients with complex pulmonary diseases and critically ill conditions. This role includes inpatient critical care management, pulmonary consultation, and outpatient pulmonary medicine, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care for critically ill patients in medical, surgical, or mixed intensive care units

  • Evaluate and manage acute respiratory failure, sepsis, shock, and multi-organ dysfunction

  • Diagnose and treat pulmonary conditions including COPD, asthma, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary infections, pulmonary hypertension, and lung cancer

  • Perform and supervise pulmonary and critical care procedures consistent with training and privileges (e.g., bronchoscopy, airway management, mechanical ventilation, thoracentesis, vascular access)

  • Lead and participate in multidisciplinary ICU rounds and care coordination

  • Provide inpatient pulmonary consultation services and outpatient pulmonary clinic care

  • Interpret pulmonary diagnostic studies including pulmonary function tests, imaging, and sleep studies as applicable

  • Participate in rapid response, code, and emergency airway teams as required

  • Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding clinical status, prognosis, and goals of care

  • Supervise and educate residents, fellows, advanced practice providers, and nursing staff as applicable

  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

  • Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and outcomes initiatives

  • Comply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school

  • Completion of an accredited Internal Medicine residency program

  • Completion of an accredited Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellowship

  • Board-eligible or board-certified in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine

  • Ability to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensure

  • DEA registration or eligibility

  • BLS and ACLS certification

Work Environment

  • Intensive care units, inpatient hospital settings, and outpatient pulmonary clinics

  • Shift-based or call-based scheduling including nights, weekends, and holidays as required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and move throughout ICU, hospital, and clinic environments

  • Manual dexterity for bedside and procedural tasks

  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for patient monitoring and emergency response
