Community Psychiatrist (MD/DO) | Supportive Housing Psychiatry
Job at a glance
Job description
A mission-driven community psychiatry practice in New York City is hiring two full-time psychiatrists to provide care for adults experiencing, or recovering from, homelessness.
This isn’t a 15-minute med check job. Caseloads are small and documentation is light, so you’ll have time to build real therapeutic relationships. You’ll work in the community: on the street, in drop-in centers, and in supportive and transitional housing. A team that shares your values will be right beside you.
What You’ll Do
- Join weekly clinical case conferences with fellow providers
- Build trust with people who need psychiatric care, often meeting them where they are
- Develop and lead trainings, and teach students and trainees
- Advocate for patients across housing, health, and social service systems
- Do psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic interviews, and ongoing treatment
- Provide medication management and psychotherapy as part of an integrated care plan
- Support each person’s recovery goals with person-centered, trauma-informed care
- Work as a core member of a multidisciplinary team (similar to ACT, but with lower caseloads and more psychiatric complexity)
- Help design and carry out population health initiatives
What You’ll Bring
- Comfort working mostly in person, in community-based settings
- A New York State medical license (MD or DO)
- Board certification or board eligibility in Psychiatry
- A genuine passion for community psychiatry and for serving people with lived experience of homelessness
- A collaborative, team-based approach and a commitment to equity and inclusion
- Proficiency with electronic medical records
- New residency graduates are welcome
Why You’ll Love It
- A salary of $225,000–$245,000, based on years of experience after residency, with annual step increases
- Protected time for education and professional development, including CME-accredited learning
- Small caseloads and minimal documentation and billing, with time to actually practice psychiatry
- Expert clinical supervision from leaders in community psychiatry
- Malpractice coverage provided
- Generous time off
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage, an HSA, and FSAs
- Tuition reimbursement, a transit subsidy, and pre-tax commuter benefits
