Position Overview
An established inpatient behavioral health program in the St. Louis, Missouri area is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatrist to serve as Medical Director.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a psychiatrist who wants to combine hands-on patient care with meaningful physician leadership. The program currently serves approximately 12 adult patients, with significant census growth anticipated in the coming months.
The Medical Director will play an important role in shaping psychiatric services, strengthening clinical processes, mentoring the clinical team, and supporting the program's continued development.
Job Responsibilities
Provide psychiatric leadership and direct clinical care for adult inpatient behavioral health patients.
Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with acute psychiatric conditions and co-occurring substance use disorders.
Oversee medication management, psychiatric stabilization, and individualized treatment planning.
Collaborate with nursing, therapy, case management, utilization review, and facility leadership.
Promote clinical quality, patient safety, accurate documentation, and regulatory compliance.
Provide clinical guidance and mentorship to multidisciplinary team members.
Establish and improve psychiatric protocols, workflows, and clinical standards.
Participate in clinical and administrative decision-making related to program operations.
Support service expansion and maintain high standards of care as patient volume increases.
Qualifications
MD or DO degree.
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.
Active Missouri medical license or ability to obtain Missouri licensure.
Strong clinical judgment and the ability to manage adult psychiatric patients in an inpatient setting.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
Ability to work onsite in the St. Louis, Missouri area.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous inpatient psychiatry experience.
Prior Medical Director, Associate Medical Director, Chief Medical Officer, or senior physician leadership experience.
Experience treating co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders.
Experience developing clinical programs, improving treatment processes, or establishing clinical standards.
Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
