Department: Military Treatment Facility (MTF)
Location: Fort Sam Houston, TX 78234 (Joint Base San Antonio)
Contract Duration: At least 6 months
Hours: 40 hr./week
Shift Time: 8a-5p (M-F)

Position Overview & Key Duties:

Seeking a highly qualified Staff Psychiatrist (MD/DO) to deliver a full range of psychiatric care, diagnostic evaluations, and crisis interventions to beneficiaries within a Military Treatment Facility at Fort Sam Houston. This role combines direct clinical care for urgent, emergent, and routine psychiatric cases with academic clinical leadership, including teaching and mentoring multi-disciplinary medical personnel.

• Clinical Psychiatry & Crisis Management: Examine, diagnose, and prescribe treatment courses for complex psychiatric conditions. Actively lead psychiatric crisis interventions and perform life-saving emergency procedures when necessary.
• Preventative Care & Consultation: Provide mental health education, counseling, and proactive follow-up treatments. Offer expert telephone and in-person clinical consultations to physicians and non-physician providers regarding urgent medical problems.
• Academic & Professional Leadership: Direct, teach, and deliver educational lectures to clinic staff. Serve as a core member of the medical faculty, participating in Quality Assurance (QA), performance improvement boards, and peer review programs.
• Comprehensive Care Coordination: Partner with facility and community healthcare organizations to provide robust, multi-disciplinary patient care tailored to the individual's personal and military history.

Minimum Requirement:

Candidates must possess prior experience working directly within a hospital facility.
• Degree: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.).
• Board Certification: Recognized by boards that are members of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the AOA Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists.
• Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. State or Territory.
