We are seeking an experienced Psychiatrist – Regional Medical Director to provide strategic and clinical leadership across multiple treatment programs within the region. Position Summary

The Regional Medical Director serves as the senior physician leader for an assigned region, overseeing the quality, consistency, and effectiveness of psychiatric and medical services across multiple locations.

Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer, this individual partners closely with operational leadership, site directors, physicians, advanced practice providers, behavioral health clinicians, nursing leadership, and external stakeholders to promote exceptional patient care and regulatory compliance.

The role combines a limited clinical practice with leadership, mentorship, strategic planning, and oversight of regional psychiatric and medical operations.

Leadership Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership:
Provide physician leadership across regional treatment locations
Establish and maintain high clinical standards across all sites
Ensure delivery of evidence-based psychiatric and medical care
Promote a culture centered around patient safety, quality, accountability, and recovery
Serve as a resource for complex clinical cases and treatment planning
Support implementation of best practices across all levels of care
Foster physician engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration
Provider Oversight & Development
Mentor psychiatrists, physicians, advanced practice providers, and medical staff
Assist with physician recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts
Promote professional development and continuing education initiatives
Ensure providers receive appropriate supervision, guidance, and support
Participate in performance assessment and provider development processes
Support succession planning within regional medical leadership

Regional Medical Operations:
Provide oversight of psychiatric and medical service delivery throughout the region
Partner with site leadership to optimize provider scheduling and patient access
Evaluate staffing needs and recommend solutions to support growth and operational efficiency
Identify barriers affecting patient care and provider effectiveness
Collaborate with operational leaders to improve clinical workflows and patient experience
Monitor consistency of care across programs and locations

Clinical Responsibilities:
Maintains direct patient care responsibilities including
Comprehensive psychiatric evaluations
Medical and psychiatric assessments
Diagnostic clarification
Medication management
Treatment planning
Collaboration with multidisciplinary treatment teams
Participation in clinical case consultations
Crisis intervention and risk management activities as needed

The Regional Medical Director helps ensure patients receive timely, individualized, and clinically appropriate care throughout their treatment journey.

Strategic Leadership:
In partnership with the Chief Medical Officer and executive leadership team, this physician leader will:
Develop and execute regional clinical initiatives
Support organizational growth and expansion planning
Identify opportunities to improve patient outcomes
Evaluate emerging treatment models and clinical innovations
Assist with implementation of new programs and service lines
Drive alignment between clinical excellence and organizational objectives
Develop strategies to strengthen physician engagement and retention
Quality, Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure compliance with state, federal, accreditation, and payer requirements
Monitor quality indicators and clinical outcomes
Participate in quality improvement initiatives
Support utilization management and medical necessity reviews
Assist with audits, accreditation reviews, and regulatory inspections
Collaborate on patient-safety efforts and risk mitigation strategies
Evaluate clinical policies and procedures for effectiveness and compliance

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
MD or DO degree.
Board certification in Psychiatry.
Active, unrestricted medical license.
Current, unrestricted DEA registration.
Demonstrated medical leadership experience.
Experience supervising physicians, nurse practitioners, or multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
Proficiency with electronic health record systems.
BLS/CPR certification or ability to obtain.

Preferred Qualifications:
Fellowship training.
Eating disorder treatment experience.
Experience in residential, PHP, IOP, or behavioral health settings.
Multisite physician leadership experience.
Familiarity with Joint Commission, CARF, or other accreditation standards.
