Emergency Psychiatry Locum Opportunity – Dallas, TX

We are seeking a Board-Certified Psychiatrist for an Emergency Psychiatry locum opportunity in Dallas, Texas. This is an excellent opportunity for physicians seeking consistent overnight coverage in a collaborative psychiatric emergency setting.

Position Highlights

• 12-hour night shifts
• 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Work any 2 nights per week (Tuesday–Saturday)
• No call – provider remains onsite during the shift
• Ongoing PRN coverage
• Epic EMR
• Local providers preferred

Practice Setting

• Psychiatric Emergency Department
• Adult patient population with occasional pediatric psychiatric consultations in the main Emergency Department
• Two Psychiatric Emergency Units (PED and PEU)
• Dedicated Psychiatric ER Consult Team for the main ED and psychiatric intake

Patient Volume

• Psych ER providers manage a maximum of 10 patients per shift
• Consult team averages 5–6 patients per 12-hour shift

Responsibilities

• Perform initial and follow-up psychiatric evaluations
• Medication management and treatment recommendations
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary care teams
• Coordinate physician-to-physician transfers between psychiatric and medical emergency departments
• Consult with other medical specialties as needed
• Complete involuntary commitment documentation and other physician-specific responsibilities
• Admit appropriate patients to psychiatric observation
• Complete physician-only tasks for APP-supported patients, including restraint orders and required documentation

Requirements

• Board Certified in Psychiatry (BC only)
• Active Texas medical license
• Comfortable practicing in a psychiatric emergency setting
• Experience working collaboratively in a fast-paced emergency environment
