Job description Job Title: Telehealth Psychiatrist (16 hr./week)
Location: Norfolk VA 23510
Pay rate: $300- $350/hr.
Shift: 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM (M-F)

Job Summary:

The Telehealth Psychiatrist will provide comprehensive mental health evaluations and interventions through telehealth. This role involves supervising mental health staff, coordinating with external agencies, and ensuring the delivery of timely and effective mental health care to inmates. The psychiatrist will work closely with the Norfolk Community Services Board (NCSB) and other stakeholders to support mental health services in a correctional environment.

Responsibilities:

Conduct telehealth mental health evaluations and provide necessary interventions.
Coordinate with the Nursing Service Officer (NSO) to implement recommended safety plans.
Supervise the Nurse Practitioner of Mental Health and other mental health professionals.
Ensure availability of a psychiatrist for a minimum of 16 hours per week.
Oversee a minimum of four Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) or Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) providing on-site mental health assessments 40 hours per week and 16 hours on weekends, including emergency on-call coverage 24/7.
Deliver mental health support services to inmates.
Communicate with Norfolk Community Services Board (NCSB) regarding current, past, and new clients requiring outpatient services.
Facilitate NCSB liaison interviews with all clients as required.
Ensure all staff are trained on recognizing symptoms and treating suicidal and homicidal inmates.
Develop and enforce policies for on-site treatment and referral of suicidal and homicidal inmates.
Guarantee that qualified mental health personnel conduct daily rounds on isolated inmates.
Notify NSO for mental and medical evaluations if an inmate is unable to communicate verbally.
Report any unusual findings immediately to the post control deputy.
Maintain detailed records of rounds and clinical encounters in medical records.
Ensure physical and mental health assessments of isolated inmates every 15 calendar days.
Ensure mental health assessments are conducted every 15 calendar days by a Licensed Clinical Therapist.
Submit weekly reports detailing suicides, suicide attempts, psychotropic medication usage, psychiatrist visits, inmate evaluations, and NCSB interviews.

Mandatory Requirements:

Licensed mental health clinician in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in correctional mental health care or a comparable environment such as public health, urgent care, or indigent care.
