A confidential inpatient behavioral health program in the St. Louis, Missouri area is seeking a full-time Psychiatrist Medical Director to provide both clinical care and physician leadership.

This is an excellent opportunity for a psychiatrist who wants to take on a meaningful leadership role while remaining actively involved in patient care. The program serves adults with mental health and substance use conditions and is currently caring for approximately 12 patients, with significant census growth anticipated over the next two months.

The incoming Medical Director will have the opportunity to help shape psychiatric services, establish clinical expectations, and support the program as it expands.

Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:
Provide clinical and psychiatric leadership for adult inpatient behavioral health services.
Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with a range of psychiatric and substance use conditions.
Provide medication management and oversee individualized psychiatric treatment plans.
Manage acute psychiatric stabilization and ongoing clinical care.
Collaborate with nursing, therapy, case management, utilization review, and facility leadership.
Promote high standards of documentation, patient safety, clinical quality, and regulatory compliance.
Provide psychiatric guidance and mentorship to members of the clinical team.
Help establish and maintain effective psychiatric processes and standards as the program grows.
Participate in clinical and administrative decision-making appropriate to the Medical Director role.
Balance direct patient care responsibilities with physician leadership and program oversight.
Support the continued development of psychiatric services as patient volume increases.

Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will be a clinically strong psychiatrist who is comfortable working in an inpatient environment and interested in combining patient care with leadership responsibilities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
MD or DO degree.
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.
Active Missouri medical license or ability to obtain Missouri licensure.
Strong clinical skills and sound judgment in the treatment of adult psychiatric patients.
Ability to work onsite in the St. Louis area.
Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Previous inpatient psychiatry experience.
Medical Director, Associate Medical Director, Chief Medical Officer, or senior attending leadership experience.
Experience treating patients with co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions.
Experience developing or improving clinical programs, processes, or standards.
Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary clinical teams.
