Job description
This is a full-time attending psychiatrist position focused primarily on the hospital's geriatric inpatient population. This role does not include Medical Director or executive leadership responsibilities, allowing you to focus on providing exceptional psychiatric care for older adults within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
The hospital provides a comprehensive continuum of behavioral health services, including acute inpatient care, a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). You'll work alongside experienced nurse practitioners, therapists, nurses, social workers, and hospital leadership to deliver compassionate, evidence-based care to older adults experiencing acute psychiatric and behavioral health conditions.
The Geriatric Psychiatrist will provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, treatment planning, and physician consultation for hospitalized older adults with acute psychiatric illnesses.
Within the hospital's collaborative care model, nurse practitioners provide much of the routine day-to-day patient management, while psychiatrists serve as the physician resource for psychiatric evaluations, complex cases, medication oversight, consultation, and clinical decision-making.

Job Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments for geriatric patients.
Provide ongoing psychiatric care in an acute inpatient behavioral health setting.
Manage psychiatric medications and monitor treatment response.
Develop, review, and update individualized treatment plans.
Evaluate behavioral changes, cognitive impairment, mood disorders, psychosis, anxiety, and safety concerns.
Differentiate psychiatric disorders from dementia, delirium, cognitive decline, and other underlying medical conditions.
Assess suicide risk, psychiatric acuity, medical complexity, and discharge readiness.
Collaborate closely with nurse practitioners while providing physician-level clinical guidance and consultation.
Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.
Communicate effectively with families, caregivers, guardians, and authorized representatives.
Support admissions, continued-stay reviews, and discharge planning.
Provide consultation for complex psychiatric and behavioral presentations.
Complete accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentation.
Collaborate with nursing, therapists, social workers, advanced practice providers, and hospital leadership.
Support continuity of care between inpatient, PHP, and IOP services when appropriate.
Maintain compliance with hospital policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
Established 140-bed behavioral health hospital.
Acute inpatient psychiatric services.
Primary focus on the geriatric psychiatric population.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP).
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).
Multidisciplinary treatment team.
Established advanced practice provider support model.
Collaborative physician practice environment.
Working Hours
Full-time.
Monday through Friday.
Inpatient behavioral health setting.
Weekend and call expectations will be discussed during the interview process.
Skills
Required Qualifications:
MD or DO degree.
Completion of an accredited Psychiatry residency.
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.
Active Georgia medical license or willingness to obtain one.
Active DEA registration or eligibility to obtain one.
Comfortable treating geriatric patients in an acute inpatient behavioral health setting.
Strong clinical judgment, communication, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
Ability to complete credentialing and background screening requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Fellowship training in Geriatric Psychiatry.
Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Geriatric Psychiatry.
Previous inpatient geriatric psychiatry experience.
Experience treating dementia-related behavioral disturbances, depression, anxiety, psychosis, bipolar disorder, and other psychiatric conditions affecting older adults.
Experience managing medically and psychiatrically complex geriatric patients.
Experience collaborating with advanced practice providers.
Familiarity with Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) programs.
Strong communication skills when working with families, caregivers, guardians, and interdisciplinary care teams.
Compensation:
Compensation Range: Salary annually
Compensation is based on experience, board certification status, fellowship training, and overall qualifications.
