Job description
We are seeking a Psychiatric Medical Director to provide clinical leadership at an inpatient behavioral health facility located in Southern Illinois, within driving distance of St. Louis, Missouri. This role offers the opportunity to oversee psychiatric services while working within a collaborative multidisciplinary care environment.
This is an on-site locum opportunity offering a flexible schedule of 4 to 5 days per week, totaling 37.5 hours per week. The role is primarily administrative (approximately 95%), with strong support from the facility’s administrative leadership team.
The Medical Director will work closely with the Administrator and Assistant Administrator to support clinical operations, oversee psychiatric services, and ensure compliance with facility policies and regulatory standards.
This is a 6-month to 1-year contracted assignment, with potential for extension.
Compensation: $250 to $275 per hour depending on leadership and practice experience.
Job Responsibilities
• Supervise and support a multidisciplinary team including Psychiatrists, PMH-NPs, Psychologists, and Social Workers
• Participate in administrative and leadership meetings
• Collaborate with administration to ensure appropriate staffing and clinical coverage
• Support quality improvement and clinical process review initiatives
• Ensure compliance with facility policies and regulatory standards
• Provide consultation on complex psychiatric cases when needed
Qualifications
• Board Certified in Psychiatry
• Illinois Medical License or ability to obtain
• Illinois Controlled Substance License (CSL) or eligibility to apply
• DEA registration or eligibility to obtain
• Prior leadership or Medical Director experience preferred
