We are seeking a Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist for a locum opportunity in San Francisco, California, beginning October 2026. This assignment offers a unique schedule of two weekends per month plus the following Monday and Tuesday, combining inpatient adolescent psychiatry coverage with night and weekend call.

Assignment Details

  • Start Date: October 19, 2026
  • 1 position available
  • Coverage needed 2 weekends per month plus the following Monday and Tuesday
  • Candidates must currently reside in California

Schedule

  • Two weekends per month
  • Monday and Tuesday: 8:00 AM–5:00 PM onsite
  • Monday and Tuesday night call through 8:00 AM the following morning
  • Weekend rounding begins at 8:00 AM
  • Approximately 6 hours of onsite rounding each weekend day
  • After weekend rounding, physician remains on call until 8:00 AM the following day
  • 24-hour weekend coverage with onsite rounding

Practice Setting

  • Acute Care Hospital
  • Inpatient Adolescent Psychiatry
  • Adolescent patient population
  • Approximately 6–12 patients per day
  • Epic EMR

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide psychiatric care to adolescent patients
  • Perform inpatient weekend rounding
  • Provide night and weekend call coverage
  • Place admission orders for accepted patients arriving during night call
  • Manage psychiatric medications in children and adolescents
  • Develop individualized treatment plans
  • Collaborate with parents and guardians
  • Manage challenging behaviors using therapeutic interventions and de-escalation techniques
  • Lead and collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Provide guidance and supervision to other healthcare professionals

Requirements

  • Board Certified in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, OR
  • Board Certified in General Psychiatry with completed Child & Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship
  • California medical license required
  • Licensing assistance available
  • California DEA with Schedules 2/2N required
  • BLS required
  • All required certifications must be through AHA
  • Strong knowledge of pediatric/adolescent psychopharmacology and psychotherapy
  • Experience managing psychiatric medications in children and adolescents
  • Strong understanding of adolescent development and family systems
  • Experience developing comprehensive treatment plans
  • Behavioral management and de-escalation experience
  • Ability to lead and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team
  • Understanding of relevant legal, educational, and safeguarding frameworks

Ideal Candidate

A Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist experienced in inpatient adolescent psychiatry who is comfortable with weekend rounding, overnight call, psychopharmacology, behavioral management, and multidisciplinary team leadership.
