Division Chief of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry

The University of Missouri for School of Medicine (SOM), MU Health Care (MUHC), and the Missouri Psychiatric Center (MUPC) are seeking an innovative, strategic leader to be the Chief of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. This position offers the opportunity to lead our well-established Division, its innovative clinical, academic, and research programs into the future. This includes serving the needs of the children and families of Missouri, supporting a large, dynamic tertiary-care children’s hospital system composed of two hospitals.

This is a key leadership role in the Department of Psychiatry, and MUPC, which includes opportunities to participate in and lead the child and adolescent portion of an exceptionally strong psychiatry education program, to guide the development of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and significantly impact the entire state.

The Ideal Candidate will:

  • Have significant leadership skills, and excel in at least two (2) of the areas of our three-fold mission: clinical care, education, and research.
  • Work in collaboration with the Office of Recruitment and Department Chair to double the size of the division's faculty over the next 3-5 years with an emphasis on cultivating a diverse and inclusive faculty body.
  • Foster collaboration and engagement across research, teaching, and clinical missions.
  • Foster new interdisciplinary initiatives designed to engage multiple disciplines throughout the University, region, and nationally and internationally.
  • Lead the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the academic home of all MUPC/MUHC Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists
  • Ensure that the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry clinic and inpatient operations are fully in compliance with our budget and strategic departmental goals.
  • Act as Medical Director for our Outpatient and Inpatient Youth Services. This includes a 17-bed Youth Unit and our Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic.
  • Effectively mentor Division faculty to develop his/her academic career
  • Demonstrate a record of promoting collaboration and cultivating strong internal and external relationships

Required Qualifications:

  • MD or DO, MD /Ph.D. or equivalent required
  • American Board Certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
  • Eligible for licensure in the State of Missouri
  • Academic credentials which merit appointment as Associate Professor or Professor at University of Missouri
  • Have leadership experience and be willing to further develop one’s leadership abilities
  • Training in DBT, CBT and/or MI
  • For the purposes of this application, board-certified/board eligible are considered experienced.

Preferred Qualifications Include:

  • Demonstrated leadership in an academic department
  • Participation in nationally recognized Child and Adolescent academic activities
  • An understanding of the complexities of academic life and the interactions between departments (divisions), hospitals, and health care systems.
  • K or R awarded researcher with a publication record demonstrating expertise in an area of child or adolescent psychiatry.

Compensation:

  • Base salary set at the 50%tile of AAMC, and will be commensurate with the applicant's experience & academic background.
