Our confidential client is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) physician to serve as Medical Director of an established inpatient rehabilitation program in the Augusta-area region.
This opportunity combines an active inpatient PM&R practice with physician leadership responsibilities. The Medical Director will work closely with executive leadership and multidisciplinary clinical teams to support quality patient care, regulatory compliance, physician development, and continued program growth.
The position offers strong clinical and administrative support, physician autonomy, and an opportunity to develop a long-term leadership career within a growing rehabilitation organization.
Job Responsibilities
Perform admission evaluations, histories, and physical examinations
Manage daily inpatient rehabilitation rounds
Develop individualized rehabilitation treatment plans
Conduct functional, neuromuscular, and musculoskeletal assessments
Manage pain, spasticity, and medically complex rehabilitation patients
Perform EMG/NCS studies and diagnostic or therapeutic injections when applicable
Prevent secondary complications associated with rehabilitation conditions
Collaborate with consulting physicians and multidisciplinary care teams
Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant clinical documentation
Medical Director Responsibilities
Lead interdisciplinary rehabilitation team conferences
Partner with executive leadership on clinical and operational initiatives
Develop and implement clinical policies and best practices
Support quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
Maintain compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, and IRF standards
Mentor physicians and multidisciplinary clinical staff
Support physician recruitment, onboarding, and retention
Participate in strategic growth and community outreach initiatives
Qualifications
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
Completion of an accredited PM&R residency
Active or eligible South Carolina medical license
DEA registration or ability to obtain
Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
Commitment to evidence-based, patient-centered rehabilitation care
Working Hours
No traditional call schedule
Medical Director administrative responsibilities integrated with clinical practice
Admissions and PAS reviews as needed
