Job description
A nationally recognized rehabilitation organization is seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) Physician to serve as Medical Director of an established inpatient rehabilitation program in the Greater Hartford Area.
This is an opportunity to combine active inpatient rehabilitation practice with physician leadership, helping guide clinical quality, patient outcomes, physician engagement, and program growth.
The Medical Director will work closely with executive leadership and a highly experienced interdisciplinary team including nursing, therapy, case management, consulting physicians, and hospital administration.
The ideal candidate is passionate about rehabilitation medicine, enjoys leading multidisciplinary teams, and is interested in making a meaningful impact while maintaining an active clinical practice.
Job Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive inpatient PM&R services
Perform admission evaluations and consultations
Conduct daily inpatient rounds
Complete comprehensive history and physical examinations
Develop individualized rehabilitation treatment plans
Perform functional, neuromuscular, and musculoskeletal assessments
Manage pain and spasticity
Perform EMG/NCS when applicable
Perform diagnostic and therapeutic injections when appropriate
Manage medically complex rehabilitation patients
Help prevent secondary rehabilitation complications
Collaborate with consulting specialists
Respond to rehabilitation consultations
Maintain accurate and compliant clinical documentation
Medical Director Responsibilities
Provide clinical leadership for the rehabilitation program
Lead interdisciplinary rehabilitation team conferences
Partner with executive leadership on strategic initiatives
Develop and enhance clinical policies and procedures
Drive quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
Support compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, and IRF standards
Mentor physicians and multidisciplinary clinical teams
Promote evidence-based rehabilitation practices
Support physician recruitment, onboarding, and retention
Improve patient satisfaction and rehabilitation outcomes
Support continued growth of rehabilitation services
Develop and strengthen community and referral partnerships
Qualifications
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
Completion of an ACGME- or AOA-accredited PM&R residency
Connecticut medical license or eligibility to obtain
Active DEA registration or ability to obtain prior to employment
Strong leadership and communication skills
Commitment to evidence-based rehabilitation medicine
Commitment to quality patient care
Working Hours
