PM&R Medical Director – Inpatient Rehabilitation
A well-established healthcare organization is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) Physician to serve as Medical Director for a premier inpatient rehabilitation program in Connecticut.
This opportunity combines hands-on inpatient rehabilitation medicine with clinical leadership, physician collaboration, quality improvement, and program development. The ideal physician is an experienced physiatrist who enjoys working with complex rehabilitation patients and leading interdisciplinary teams.

Job Responsibilities
Perform admission evaluations, consultations, H&Ps, and daily inpatient rounds.
Develop individualized rehabilitation and medical management plans.
Evaluate and manage complex neurological, musculoskeletal, orthopedic, and medically complex rehabilitation patients.
Manage pain, spasticity, functional limitations, and rehabilitation-related medical complications.
Coordinate care with specialists, therapists, nursing, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
Participate in rehabilitation team conferences and care planning.
Provide emergency rehabilitation consultations when needed.
Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation.
Utilize evidence-based rehabilitation practices to support quality outcomes.
Medical Director Responsibilities
Provide clinical leadership for the inpatient rehabilitation program.
Lead and support interdisciplinary rehabilitation team collaboration.
Partner with executive and clinical leadership on program priorities.
Support development and implementation of clinical policies and procedures.
Promote quality improvement, patient safety, and positive patient outcomes.
Support compliance with applicable CMS, IRF, accreditation, and regulatory standards.
Mentor physicians and multidisciplinary clinical teams.
Participate in physician recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and retention initiatives.
Support evidence-based clinical practices and ongoing program development.
Help strengthen physician, community, and referral relationships.
Qualifications
MD or DO degree
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
Completion of an ACGME- or AOA-accredited PM&R residency
Active Connecticut medical license or eligibility to obtain one
Active DEA registration or ability to obtain
Strong clinical communication and interpersonal skills
Commitment to evidence-based rehabilitation and quality patient care
Preferred:
2+ years of inpatient rehabilitation/IRF experience
Previous Medical Director, Associate Medical Director, Chief PM&R, or comparable physician leadership experience
Experience leading interdisciplinary rehabilitation teams
Knowledge of CMS and IRF regulatory requirements
Familiarity with IRF-PAI and rehabilitation quality metrics
EMG/NCS experience
Experience with ultrasound-guided injections
Experience with spasticity management/Botox
MSK/interventional rehabilitation experience
Working Hours
Full-Time | Inpatient Rehabilitation
Primarily weekday clinical schedule
Inpatient rounding and rehabilitation team participation
Medical Director leadership responsibilities integrated with clinical practice
Schedule designed to support both patient care and administrative/leadership responsibilities
