Medical Director – Inpatient Rehabilitation

She Recruits is conducting a confidential search on behalf of a respected healthcare organization seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Internal Medicine Physician or PM&R Physician to serve as Medical Director of an established inpatient rehabilitation program in Waterbury, Connecticut.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a physician who enjoys combining patient care with leadership while maintaining an excellent work-life balance. Physicians from an Internal Medicine background who have experience rounding in Skilled Nursing Facilities or post-acute settings are encouraged to apply, as comprehensive education and support regarding rehabilitation regulations and program requirements will be provided.
This position offers physician autonomy, flexible scheduling, outstanding clinical support, and the opportunity to lead an experienced interdisciplinary rehabilitation team.
Position Highlights

Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive medical management for inpatient rehabilitation patients.
- Perform admissions, follow-up visits, and ongoing medical care.
- Lead interdisciplinary rehabilitation team conferences.
- Collaborate with therapy, nursing, case management, and hospital leadership.
- Support quality improvement and regulatory initiatives.
- Provide Medical Director oversight while maintaining an active clinical practice.
- Complete timely clinical documentation.
Qualifications
Required
- MD or DO
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in:
- Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R), or
- Internal Medicine
- Active Connecticut medical license (or ability to obtain)
- Active DEA registration
- Strong communication and leadership skills
Preferred
- Inpatient rehabilitation experience
- Skilled Nursing Facility rounding experience
- Hospitalist experience with rehabilitation patients
- Previous physician leadership experience
Physicians with Internal Medicine backgrounds who have worked in Skilled Nursing Facilities or post-acute care settings are encouraged to apply. Training and mentorship regarding rehabilitation regulations will be provided.
