Our confidential client is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) Physician to serve as the Medical Director of a premier inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Connecticut.
This is more than a traditional PM&R opportunity—it is a chance to provide exceptional inpatient rehabilitation care while leading the clinical direction of a well-established rehabilitation program.
As Medical Director, you will partner with executive leadership and a highly skilled interdisciplinary team to deliver evidence-based rehabilitation services that help patients regain independence following stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, orthopedic trauma, neurological disease, amputation, and other medically complex conditions.

Job Responsibilities
The Medical Director combines an active inpatient rehabilitation practice with physician leadership responsibilities that directly influence clinical quality, operational excellence, physician engagement, and program growth.
Working closely with executive leadership, nursing, therapy, case management, consulting physicians, and hospital administration, you will help ensure exceptional patient care while supporting strategic initiatives that strengthen the rehabilitation program.
This position is ideal for a physician who enjoys mentoring clinicians, improving healthcare delivery, and leading multidisciplinary teams while maintaining an active clinical practice.
Clinical Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive inpatient PM&R services, including:
Admission evaluations and consultations
Daily inpatient rounding
Comprehensive history and physical examinations
Individualized rehabilitation treatment planning
Functional, neuromuscular, and musculoskeletal assessments
Pain and spasticity management
Electrodiagnostic testing (EMG/NCS), when applicable
Diagnostic and therapeutic injections
Prevention of secondary rehabilitation complications
Medical management of medically complex rehabilitation patients
Collaboration with consulting specialists
Emergency rehabilitation consultations
Accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation
Medical Director Responsibilities:
Provide clinical leadership by:
Leading interdisciplinary rehabilitation team conferences
Partnering with executive leadership on strategic initiatives
Developing and enhancing clinical policies and procedures
Driving quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
Supporting compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, and IRF standards
Mentoring physicians and multidisciplinary clinical teams
Improving patient satisfaction and rehabilitation outcomes
Assisting with physician recruitment, onboarding, and retention
Promoting evidence-based rehabilitation practices
Supporting the continued growth of rehabilitation services and community partnerships

Spinal Cord Injury (SCI)
Parkinson's disease
Multiple sclerosis
Neuromuscular disorders
Orthopedic trauma
Hip and knee replacement
Polytrauma
Amputation

General medical debility
Functional decline
Other medically complex rehabilitation diagnoses
Qualifications
MD or DO from an accredited medical school
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R)
Completion of an ACGME- or AOA-accredited PM&R residency
Eligible for or currently licensed to practice medicine in Connecticut
Active DEA registration or ability to obtain prior to employment
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
Commitment to evidence-based rehabilitation medicine
Passion for improving patient outcomes
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience as a Medical Director, Associate Medical Director, Chief of PM&R, or other physician leadership role
Two or more years of experience practicing in an Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility (IRF)
Experience leading interdisciplinary rehabilitation teams
Knowledge of:
CMS regulations
IRF-PAI documentation
Joint Commission standards
Rehabilitation quality metrics
Experience performing or managing:
EMG/NCS
Ultrasound-guided injections
Spasticity management
Botox injections
Musculoskeletal medicine
