Job description
An established community healthcare organization is seeking a dedicated Staff Pediatrician to provide comprehensive primary care to children and families in the Texas Hill Country region.
This is an excellent opportunity for a physician who values continuity of care, preventive medicine, collaborative practice, and meaningful community impact.
The physician will provide comprehensive outpatient pediatric care within a Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) environment, managing an established patient panel while working closely with a multidisciplinary clinical team.
The position offers the opportunity to combine direct patient care with preventive medicine, care coordination, clinical quality initiatives, and community health programs.
Job Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive pediatric primary care in an outpatient setting.
Conduct well-child examinations and preventive health visits.
Diagnose and treat acute pediatric illnesses and injuries.
Manage chronic pediatric conditions.
Develop individualized treatment plans.
Provide age-appropriate screenings, immunizations, counseling, and preventive services.
Order, interpret, and follow up on appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies.
Maintain accurate and timely electronic health record documentation.
Continuity & Care Coordination
Review laboratory and imaging results and provide appropriate follow-up.
Coordinate referrals to specialists and other healthcare providers.
Promote continuity of care and appropriate patient follow-up.
Participate in emergency or hospital on-call coverage when required.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, specialists, and healthcare team members.
Clinical Leadership
Provide clinical guidance to appropriate support staff.
Collaborate with medical leadership on quality improvement initiatives.
Support Patient-Centered Medical Home standards and objectives.
Participate in initiatives focused on patient safety, access, clinical outcomes, and care coordination.
Mentor medical students and other learners as appropriate.
Patient Education & Community Health
Educate children and families regarding preventive care, nutrition, wellness, and disease management.
Promote recommended screenings, immunizations, and treatment plans.
Participate in community health education and outreach programs.
Support initiatives designed to improve health outcomes throughout the surrounding community.
Qualifications
MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
Active, unrestricted Texas medical license.
Current DEA registration and applicable Texas DPS registration.
Current CPR certification for Healthcare Professionals.
Ability to obtain and maintain hospital privileges when required.
Strong clinical judgment and commitment to patient-centered pediatric care.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
Working knowledge of pediatric clinical protocols, EHR documentation, and applicable Texas medical practice requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
1+ year of direct pediatric practice experience.
Spanish bilingual proficiency, including speaking and writing.
Experience in outpatient pediatrics.
Community health or PCMH experience.
Experience with preventive medicine, population health, or quality improvement initiatives.
Working Hours
Full-time, 40-hour workweek
Approximately 4,200 annual patient encounters
Primarily outpatient pediatric care
Hospital/on-call participation may be required based on local coverage needs
I would not hide the 4,200 encounters. For physician candidates, transparency around expected volume is better than having them discover it later.
