Chair, Department of Pediatrics – Academic Leadership on the Gulf Coast

An established academic health center on the Gulf Coast is seeking an experienced pediatric leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the rank of Professor. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to guide a dynamic department with expansive clinical services, strong educational programs, and a growing research mission—all within a vibrant coastal community known for its diverse culture and easy access to beautiful beaches.

Position Highlights

The Chair will serve as the senior academic and clinical leader for Pediatrics, with responsibility for:

  • Providing strategic leadership across all missions, including clinical care, medical education, research, and community engagement.

  • Collaborating with health system and academic leadership to define and implement strategic priorities for department growth and excellence.

  • Coordinating inpatient pediatric services, including hospital call and coverage, to ensure continuous, high-quality care.

  • Overseeing a substantial ambulatory enterprise that includes both primary care and pediatric subspecialties, with a focus on quality, safety, value, and access.

  • Advancing care for children with medical complexity, reflecting the department’s central role within an academic health system.

  • Recruiting, mentoring, and supporting faculty, residents, fellows, and medical students in an environment that fosters academic productivity and physician well-being.

  • Promoting scholarship, curriculum innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration across the department.

  • Enhancing patient-centered care, quality improvement, and patient experience across inpatient and outpatient settings.

Qualifications

  • MD, DO, or equivalent

  • Board certification in Pediatrics

  • Demonstrated record of academic accomplishment and effective leadership

  • Eligibility for unrestricted medical licensure in Alabama
