The Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) Department of Pediatrics seeks a faculty member in the Ian M. Burr Division of Pediatric Endocrinology & Diabetes at the Assistant or Associate Professor level on the Clinical Educator (CE) or Clinical Practice (CP) tracks. Responsibilities include direct patient care in both inpatient and ambulatory settings, teaching of students, residents, and fellows, and participation in clinical research and/or quality improvement initiatives.

Among the largest pediatric endocrinology programs in the Southeast, the Division conducts over 22,000 outpatient visits annually. All physicians provide care in both our Pediatric Endocrinology and Pediatric Diabetes clinics on main campus and participate in a strong outreach network across seven offsite locations in Middle Tennessee.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide inpatient consultative care and outpatient management for the full spectrum of pediatric endocrine disorders
  • Share coverage in both the Pediatric Endocrinology and Pediatric Diabetes clinics on the main campus
  • Participate in regional outreach clinics (Middle Tennessee), within driving distance from Nashville
  • Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows in ACGME-accredited training programs
  • Engage in clinical research and/or quality improvement; collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and research staff
  • Contribute to program development across subspecialty clinics (e.g., Turner Syndrome, Metabolic Bone Disease, Lipid Disorders, DSD, Prader-Willi, Pediatric Head & Neck Endocrine Cancer, ALD, DMD)—program portfolio captured in your intake form
  • Predominantly outpatient; inpatient service/consults rotate periodically
  • Advanced Practice Support: NPs practice independently; no routine mid-level supervision required

Qualifications

  • MD/DO (or equivalent) and Tennessee medical licensure (or eligibility)
  • Board certified or board eligible in Pediatric Endocrinology
  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical care, education, and scholarship
  • Leadership/organizational strength and commitment to collaboration, mentorship, and clinical excellence
  • Dual training in Med-Peds Endocrinology welcomed

  • Among the largest pediatric endocrinology clinical and research programs in the Southeast, delivering 22,000+ outpatient visits annually
  • Children’s Diabetes Program follows 4,000+ patients, spanning Prediabetes, CF-Related Diabetes, Type 1 and Type 2 programs, and a Type 1 Diabetes Immunotherapy Clinic
  • ADA-recognized Diabetes Self-Management Education program, staffed by Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialists (CDCES), pump specialists, and registered dietitians
  • Robust clinical trials infrastructure with 49 active studies (27 diabetes; 22 metabolic bone disease/obesity) and membership as a Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet Clinical Center—the intake confirms the scale of active trials and research footprint
