Division Chief – Pediatric Emergency Medicine

A leading academic medical center on the Gulf Coast is seeking an accomplished, collaborative physician leader to serve as Division Chief of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. As the region’s sole pediatric acute care provider, the division delivers high-impact care to a diverse population of more than one million people. Pediatric emergency services are provided in a new, 26-bed, state-of-the-art Pediatric Emergency Department within a dedicated children’s hospital. The division is nationally recognized for clinical excellence and a strong commitment to education, with robust Pediatric and Emergency Medicine residency programs and a Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship in development.

Position Overview

The Division Chief will set an innovative, forward-looking vision for the continued growth, quality, and fiscal vitality of Pediatric Emergency Medicine by:

  • Growing and enhancing clinical care capabilities

  • Maintaining and expanding high-quality educational programs

  • Advancing scholarship and clinical research initiatives

  • Recruiting, retaining, and mentoring a diverse and talented faculty and APP team

  • Identifying emerging areas of clinical and academic opportunity

  • Fostering a collaborative, patient-centered culture across the institution

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a long-term strategic vision for the division

  • Lead innovation in pediatric emergency clinical care

  • Ensure fiscal stewardship and operational excellence

  • Build and support a sustainable clinical research enterprise

  • Promote interdisciplinary collaboration to improve patient outcomes

  • Advocate for faculty and invest in professional development and mentorship

Qualifications

  • MD or DO; Board Certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine

  • Eligible for Alabama medical licensure

  • Academic rank of Associate or Full Professor (or eligibility)

  • Experience in a complex, integrated academic medical environment

  • Demonstrated success in academic leadership, operations, and resource management

  • Strong record as an educator of students and residents

  • Ongoing scholarly activity and experience mentoring trainees and junior faculty

  • Excellent communication skills and professional reputation
