Flexible PRN Opportunity at a Community-Focused Hospital

Our client is seeking a PRN Pathologist to join the laboratory team in Chicago, providing PTO coverage for the current staff for 7-8 weeks a year. This opportunity is ideal for a pathologist seeking flexible supplemental coverage while practicing in a collaborative hospital environment.

The selected physician will provide anatomic and clinical pathology services, including surgical pathology interpretation, gross examination, and consultation on clinical pathology matters. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently and serving as a resource for blood bank and transfusion-related questions.

  • PRN/As-Needed Schedule
  • Typical work hours: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (dependent on daily caseload)
  • 24/7 phone call coverage required when scheduled
  • No on-site call responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret surgical pathology specimens and render timely diagnoses
  • Perform and/or oversee gross examination of specimens
  • Provide clinical pathology consultation to medical staff
  • Address blood bank and transfusion medicine-related inquiries
  • Collaborate with laboratory personnel and hospital clinicians
  • Ensure compliance with quality, regulatory, and accreditation standards

Qualifications:

  • BC/BE in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology
  • Active Illinois medical license (or ability to obtain)
  • Strong grossing skills required
  • Ability to practice independently with minimal supervision
  • Comfortable managing clinical pathology issues, including blood bank and transfusion medicine consultations
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
