Service Line Chief of Orthopedics | Central New York Position Type: Full-Time | 0.7 FTE Clinical / 0.3 FTE Administrative Practice Overview * Lead Orthopedics and Podiatry across an integrated academic health system serving an eight-county region in Central New York. * Provide strategic and clinical leadership for a comprehensive orthopedic service line. * Department includes 11 orthopedic physicians, 4 podiatry physicians/surgeons, and 13 physician assistants. * Subspecialties include total joint, spine, sports medicine, trauma/fracture care, shoulder and upper extremity, and foot and ankle. * Maintain an active clinical practice, with Total Joint expertise preferred. * Lead expansion of joint replacement, musculoskeletal, and subspecialty orthopedic services. * Oversee staffing, clinical workflows, operations, and resource utilization. * Drive quality, safety, operational efficiency, and patient experience initiatives. * Lead physician recruitment, retention, and professional development. * Develop strategies to increase access, strengthen referral networks, and expand the service line's regional presence. * Academic environment with opportunities for teaching and program development. Compensation & Recruitment Package * Annual salary: $925,000–$1,100,000 * Sign-on bonus: $200,000 * $10,000 transition bonus * Eligible for additional performance-based compensation through the Chief Incentive Plan * CME and professional development opportunities * Generous PTO * Comprehensive onboarding program Job Qualifications * MD, DO, or equivalent * Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery * Eligible for New York State medical licensure * Fellowship training strongly preferred; Total Joint preferred * Minimum 7+ years of postgraduate orthopedic clinical experience * Minimum 5+ years of successful physician leadership experience, such as Medical Director, Section Head, Chief, or Associate Chief * Demonstrated success developing or expanding clinical programs and service lines * Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills * MBA, MPH, or MHA is a plus Benefits * Medical, dental, and vision coverage * Generous PTO * CME and professional development support * 403(b) retirement plan with pre-tax and Roth contribution options * Employer retirement contribution ranging from 4% to 11% when eligibility criteria are met * 457(b) deferred compensation plan * Full onboarding support Community Details Central New York offers a combination of small-town living, outdoor recreation, and access to larger regional communities.
