Facility in Mason City, IA seeking Lucrative Orthopedic Surgery locums coverage

Medical Center is seeking a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon for locum tenens coverage to support ongoing needs. This opportunity includes clinic coverage, inpatient care, surgical cases, and 24-hour orthopedic call. Candidates must be able to cover both required date blocks in March and April.

Compensation:

Orientation

Hourly $360/hr

Overtime $450/hr

Night Call $350 to include 2 gratis hours

24 Hour On Call $2700 to include 4 gratis hours

Call Back $450/hour after gratis hours

Holidays 1.5x regular rates

Practice Setting: Hospital-based clinic, inpatient, and surgical coverage

Location:Mason City, IA (130 miles south of Minneapolis, MN)

Coverage Type: Locum Tenens

Trauma Level: Level III

Required Coverage Dates

Candidates must be available for both blocks below to be considered.

March 13 @ 7:00 AM – March 24 @ 7:00 AM

April 23 @ 7:00 AM – April 28 @ 7:00 AM

Schedule and Call

Clinic days: Monday–Friday

Clinic hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

24-hour orthopedic call coverage required.

Call includes inpatient and ED consults, trauma coverage, OR cases, and follow-up clinic visits for patients seen on call.

Practice Environment

4 Orthopedic Surgeons in the group

7 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs)

Supervision of APPs is expected

Staffing support includes:

1 nurse per provider

3 cast techs shared across 7 providers

3 receptionists shared across 7 providers

2 surgery schedulers shared across 7 providers

Facility resources include onsite medical imaging, lab, and pharmacy services.

Patient Volume and Demographics:

Primarily consult-based for orthopedics)

Appointment length ranges from 10–30 minutes depending on visit type

Hub hospital serving 16 surrounding counties with a population of 200,000

Clinical Responsibilities and Required Procedures

Providers must be able to perform the full scope of orthopedic services, including:

Total hip, knee, and shoulder replacements

Surgical procedures involving the hand, wrist, knee, shoulder, hip, ankle, and foot

Trauma and fracture care

Sports medicine and treatment of other orthopedic disorders

Teaching Opportunity

IM and FM residency programs

PA student rotations available

Documentation

EMR system: Epic

Travel and Reimbursement

Flights reimbursed up to $750 round trip (no upgrades permitted)

Lodging reimbursed up to 1.5x the GSA rate average for the stay

Rental car reimbursed up to $55/day (SUVs require preapproval for inclement weather)

Mileage reimbursed at IRS standard rate

Requirements

Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery – required (Board Eligible not accepted)

Active Iowa medical license or active IMLC with LOQ – required

Clean malpractice and background – required

Self-query NPDB report (pulled within the last month) – required at presentation

Ability to cover both required date blocks – required and must be noted at name clear

Ability to perform the full scope of required orthopedic procedures – required
