Orthopedic Surgeon – Sports Medicine (Locum Tenens)

Location: Aurora, IL (45 minutes outside downtown Chicago)

Start Date: July 2026 (ASAP)

Assignment Length: 6 months

Overview

Seeking a Sports Medicine fellowship-trained Orthopedic Surgeon to support an established program due to a current vacancy. This is a full-time locum opportunity with a balanced mix of clinic and OR responsibilities.

Schedule

• 4 days/week total:
  • 2 clinic days (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, 1-hour lunch)
  • 2 OR days (starting at 7:30 AM)
• Current OR days: Monday & Friday (flexible for the right candidate)
• Alternating shifts:
  • 2 days (8-hour shifts)
  • 2 days (10-hour shifts)
• Weekend and weekday call required

Call Requirements

• Weekend Call: 1 in 7 weekends
  • Friday 5:00 PM – Monday 7:00 AM
• Weeknight Call: Shared among 6 surgeons
  • Some weeks no call; others 1 night/week
  • Includes ER call coverage + required inpatient rounding within 24 hours

Clinical Responsibilities

• Clinic volume: 25–30 patients/day
• Surgical volume: 8–10 cases/week
• Case mix includes:
  • ACL, MCL, PCL repairs
  • Meniscus procedures
  • High volume of knee and ligament cases
  • Hip arthroscopy (required)
  • Multi-ligament procedures (required)

Support & Team Structure

• 6 Orthopedic Surgeons on staff
• Total of 11 physician providers
• APP support:
  • Assist in OR (first assist)
  • Manage post-op patients
  • Share call responsibilities

Requirements

• Board Certified / Board Eligible in Orthopedic Surgery
• Sports Medicine Fellowship required
• Experience with:
  • Hip arthroscopy
  • Multi-ligament procedures
• Active Illinois license or IMLC (or willingness to obtain)
• DEA required

Additional Details

• Practice setting: Acute Care / Level II Trauma Center
• EMR: Epic
• Credentialing timeframe: ~3 months (temporary privileges available)
