Physician – Orthopedic Surgery (Sports Medicine Fellowship Trained) – Locum Tenens - IMLC Accepted- Aurora, Illinois

Position Overview

We are seeking a Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon with Sports Medicine fellowship training for a locum tenens assignment within a Level II trauma center setting in Aurora, Illinois. This role focuses on a high-volume sports medicine practice with a strong emphasis on knee and ligament reconstruction, along with general orthopedic sports procedures.

This is a collaborative, well-supported surgical environment with APP support and an established orthopedic team.

Travel and lodging 100% covered.

Schedule & Coverage

• Start Date: July 6, 2026 (or as soon as credentialed)
• Assignment Length: 6 months (26 weeks)
• Schedule Type: Alternating weekly schedule
• Clinic Days: 2 days/week (8-hour shifts, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM with 1-hour lunch)
• OR Days: 2 days/week (10-hour shifts, 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM)
• OR and clinic days may be flexible based on provider preference

Call Requirements

• Weekend Call: 1 in 7 weekends (Friday 5:00 PM – Monday 7:00 AM)
• Weeknight Call: Shared among 6 surgeons; varies weekly (some weeks none, some weeks 1 night)
• Call includes phone consults from the ED and inpatient rounding
• Inpatient consults must be seen within 24 hours per bylaws

Clinical Responsibilities

• High-volume sports medicine practice (approx. 25–30 clinic patients/day)
• Surgical volume: ~8–10 cases/week depending on mix
• Procedures include:
  • ACL, MCL, PCL reconstruction
  • Meniscus repair
  • General knee and ligament surgery
  • Hip arthroscopy (preferred but not required)
• Bread-and-butter sports medicine orthopedic surgery

Practice Environment

• Level II trauma center hospital setting
• Team of 6 orthopedic surgeons / 11 total physician providers
• APPs assist in clinic and serve as first assist in the OR
• APPs also support call coverage and inpatient rounding
• EMR: Epic

Requirements

• Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery
• Fellowship trained in Sports Medicine (required)
• Illinois license or IMLC eligibility required (willing to license IMLC candidates)
• Credentialing timeframe: approximately 3 months (temporary privileges available)
