Position Overview

Wellstar Health System is seeking a Board-Certified/Board-Eligible Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery to join the orthopedic team at its new hospital in Columbia County. This position offers the opportunity to help develop a comprehensive hand and upper extremity program within a modern, collaborative care environment.

The ideal candidate is dedicated to high-quality patient care, values multidisciplinary collaboration, and is interested in program development and long-term growth within a leading integrated health system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat a broad range of hand, wrist, forearm, and elbow conditions

  • Perform operative and non-operative management of upper extremity injuries and disorders

  • Treat traumatic injuries, degenerative conditions, nerve compression syndromes, and soft tissue disorders

  • Participate in hand and upper extremity call coverage per departmental guidelines

  • Collaborate with emergency medicine, plastic surgery, therapy services, and orthopedic colleagues

  • Work closely with certified hand therapists and rehabilitation teams

  • Utilize evidence-based clinical pathways and Wellstar protocols

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record

  • Contribute to quality improvement, patient safety, and patient experience initiatives

Qualifications

Required

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school

  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Orthopedic Surgery residency

  • Fellowship training in Hand Surgery

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Orthopedic Surgery

  • Eligible for medical licensure in the state of Georgia

  • DEA license or eligibility

Preferred

  • Experience in both elective and trauma-related hand surgery

  • Interest in upper extremity service line development

  • Strong communication and team collaboration skills
