Position Overview

Wellstar Health System is seeking a Board-Certified/Board-Eligible Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in Total Joint Arthroplasty to join the orthopedic team at its new hospital in Columbia County. This position offers the opportunity to help build and grow a high-quality joint replacement program in a modern, patient-centered environment.

The ideal candidate is committed to excellence in adult reconstruction, values collaboration, and is motivated to deliver outstanding outcomes through evidence-based, efficient, and compassionate care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive evaluation and management of patients requiring total hip and total knee arthroplasty

  • Perform primary total joint replacement procedures; revision experience preferred but not required

  • Deliver operative and non-operative care for degenerative joint conditions

  • Participate in multidisciplinary care pathways, including pre-operative optimization and post-operative recovery programs

  • Collaborate closely with anesthesiology, hospitalists, physical therapy, nursing, and care coordination teams

  • Participate in call coverage per departmental guidelines

  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record

  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, patient safety efforts, and clinical standardization

  • Support program development, efficiency initiatives, and patient experience goals

Qualifications

Required

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school

  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Orthopedic Surgery residency

  • Fellowship training in Adult Reconstruction / Total Joint Arthroplasty or equivalent clinical experience

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Orthopedic Surgery

  • Eligible for medical licensure in the state of Georgia

  • DEA license or eligibility

Preferred

  • Experience with high-volume primary total joint procedures

  • Interest in outpatient or short-stay joint replacement models

  • Familiarity with value-based care, quality metrics, and bundled payment programs

  • Strong communication and team-based care skills

Schedule & Work Environment

  • Full-time clinical position

  • Blend of clinic, elective surgical, and hospital-based care

  • Access to state-of-the-art operating rooms, robotics (if applicable), and advanced imaging

  • Dedicated orthopedic nursing teams and rehabilitation services
