Outpatient Infusion & Oncology Clinic | Minnesota License or IMLC Required for Quick Start

A community oncology practice in New Ulm, Minnesota needs a medical oncologist to provide outpatient coverage in a setting where one physician can make a visible difference in patient access and continuity of care.

This role combines the independence of a community-based practice with the resources of a larger integrated cancer network. You will work alongside experienced oncology nurses, infusion staff, nurse navigation, research support, radiology, laboratory services, palliative care, behavioral health, financial counseling, rehabilitation, and telehealth specialists.

The practice is seeking one full-time physician for the duration of the contract, though coverage may be divided between two locum providers for the right arrangement.

Assignment Details

• Specialty: Medical Oncology/Hematology
• Setting: Outpatient infusion and oncology clinic
• Location: New Ulm, Minnesota
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
• Contract: Six months with potential for a three-month extension
• Coverage: Onsite preferred; limited telehealth may be considered
• Patient volume: Approximately 13–20 patients per day
• Support: RN and LPN support, oncology nurse navigator, infusion nurses, research nurse, and APP support being added
• EMR/charting: Epic; charts expected to be completed within 24 hours
• Radiation oncology: Not included in the scope
• Start: As soon as possible
• Credentialing timeframe: Approximately 90–120 days
• Target credentialing date: November 9
• Emergency privileges may be available for a faster start
• December availability is highly preferred; please include all December availability with submission

Clinical Scope

The physician will care for patients across the outpatient oncology and hematology continuum, including:

• New patient consultations
• Diagnosis and treatment planning
• Chemotherapy oversight
• Immunotherapy
• Supportive oncology therapies
• Ongoing disease management
• Treatment follow-up and surveillance
• Solid tumor cancers
• Hematologic conditions requiring active management
• Coordination with infusion nursing for treatment approval, abnormal labs, and urgent patient needs

There is no radiation component to this assignment.

• Nine infusion chairs
• Two private infusion treatment rooms
• Two fast-track triage rooms
• Five clinic exam rooms
• Onsite laboratory and blood-draw services
• PET, including PSMA PET, CT, MRI, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine
• Palliative care
• Genetic counseling through telehealth
• Oncology social work
• Dietitian services
• Mental health support
• Financial navigation
• Cancer rehabilitation and survivorship services
• Centralized prior authorization support
• Access to clinical trials through regional and NCI-supported research programs

Requirements

• MD or DO
• Medical Oncology/Hematology experience
• Minnesota license or IMLC required for quick start
• Active practice experience appropriate to the requested scope
• Ability to manage chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and supportive oncology treatment
• Willingness to provide onsite coverage for the duration of the assignment preferred

Interview Process

Interviews are conducted by the organization’s president, medical director, and clinic director.

Travel and Lodging Parameters

• Economy airfare only
• Up to two round-trip flights per month reimbursed
• Round-trip airfare over $1,000 requires prior approval
• Hotel reimbursement up to $200 per night, including taxes and parking
• Alternative lodging reimbursement up to $4,500 per month with receipts
• Economy rental car reimbursable up to $100 per day
• SUV may be reimbursed during winter months, up to $100 per day
• Reasonable gas expenses to and from the airport and workplace reimbursed
• Rental car coverage applies during the assignment except scheduled or requested time off
• Economy airport parking or hometown rideshare reimbursement available
• Standard baggage fees reimbursed
• Additional baggage fees for recreational equipment are not reimbursed
• Mileage from home to the facility and local personal mileage are excluded

Qualified physicians should include Minnesota licensing status, IMLC status, and all December availability with submission.
