The Opportunity
Living in Tallahassee: Rolling hills, canopy roads, and a vibrant university community — with the Gulf Coast thirty minutes away and a cost of living well below any major Florida market. Home to FSU, FAMU, and the seat of state government, Tallahassee offers mid-sized city culture with a quality of life that consistently surprises physicians who visit. No state income tax makes your compensation go further than the number suggests.
What You'll Bring
Full-time; Tallahassee, FL
We are seeking OB Hospitalists to join the founding team of a brand-new Laborist program launching March 2027 at an academic health system in Tallahassee, Florida. This is a rare ground-floor opportunity to shape an obstetric hospitalist program from inception — in a high-volume delivery unit with nearly 4,000 annual births, a Level III NICU, and a teaching environment with the Family Medicine residency and OB fellows.
The Perks
- Lucrative Earning Potential: $400,000+ annual salary for full-time physicians. PRN option available for physicians seeking flexibility.
- No Clinic. Ever: This is purely in-hospital obstetric coverage. No office visits, no outpatient panel, no office-based procedures.
- Flexible Shift Structure: 12-hour or 24-hour shifts based on your preference. In-house coverage model with no on-call from home.
- Generous Benefits Package: Health, Dental, Vision, Short and Long-Term Disability, 403(b) and 457(b) retirement plans (full-time only).
- Full Financial Protection: Malpractice with tail coverage and relocation assistance.
- Academic Without the Overhead: Faculty-level teaching with FM residents and OB fellows through the FSU Health Partnership. No grant-writing burden, no research requirements.
The Opportunity
- Build Something That Lasts: This is a founding team role. You are not joining an established rotation. You are shaping protocols, culture, and hiring decisions for a program that the academic health system is investing in for the long term. Anchor physicians set the tone for everything that follows.
- High-Volume, High-Acuity OB: 6 to 8 deliveries per 24-hours. Complex obstetric cases, emergency management, and obstetric surgery in a 772-bed tertiary and quaternary hospital with Level III NICU and MFM consult services on-site.
- Teach and Lead: Supervise and teach Family Medicine residents during OB rotations and OB fellows. Manage and oversee the midwife team. Faculty-level teaching is a core responsibility, not an afterthought.
- Advance With a System That Is Investing: FSU has committed $1.7 billion over 30 years to build the institution into a world-class academic health center — with $250 million deploying by 2034 to upgrade facilities, fund research, and support clinical faculty. The infrastructure to support a growing OB program is being built around you.
- Grow Into Leadership: Phase 2 expands to add bench-strength physicians. You influence who joins. Teaching capacity grows. Potential for academic advancement and program leadership as the department matures.
