Board-certified OB/GYN physicians are invited to join a hospital-based laborist program in Modesto, California. Provide comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic care in a collaborative clinical environment through this 13-week locum tenens physician opportunity. Located in California’s Central Valley, Modesto offers convenient access to the Bay Area, Sacramento, and the scenic Sierra Nevada while providing a welcoming community setting. The assignment includes 12- and 24-hour shifts with an estimated 10–15 patient encounters per shift.

OB/GYN Laborist Job Details

OB/GYN Physician Requirements

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) with at least 1 year of experience in obstetrics and gynecology
• Board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology is required
• Current eligibility for medical licensure in California
• Current BLS and PALS certifications
• Demonstrated proficiency in low- and high-risk obstetric care
• Experience interpreting fetal heart rate monitoring, including NST, CST, and FSE
• Proficiency with obstetric ultrasound, including Level I screening examinations; Level II targeted examinations preferred
• Ability to manage routine vaginal deliveries, low-forceps deliveries, and cesarean section decision-making
• Experience managing complicated deliveries, including cesarean sections, breech presentations, abruptions, and other high-acuity obstetric cases
• Experience repairing third- and fourth-degree lacerations
• Experience with office, minor, open, laparoscopic, and operative gynecologic procedures

Laborist Physician Responsibilities

• Provide OB/GYN laborist coverage during 12- and 24-hour shifts
• Evaluate and manage patients presenting for labor, delivery, and urgent obstetric concerns
• Perform routine vaginal deliveries and low-forceps deliveries when clinically appropriate
• Assess fetal well-being and interpret NST, CST, and FSE monitoring
• Perform and interpret Level I obstetric ultrasounds
• Manage complicated deliveries, including cesarean sections, breech presentations, and abruptions
• Provide care for low-risk pregnancies and support high-risk obstetric cases
• Repair third- and fourth-degree perineal lacerations
• Perform office and minor gynecologic procedures such as IUD placement, cystoscopy, colposcopy, cryosurgery, and LEEP
• Perform open and laparoscopic gynecologic procedures, including diagnostic and minor operative cases
• Perform major operative gynecologic procedures as qualified, including management of ectopic pregnancy, oophorectomy, cystectomy, and extensive lysis of adhesions
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to promote safe, high-quality patient outcomes
