The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is seeking an OB/Gyn Academic Hospitalist at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level to join the Division of OB/Gyn Hospital Medicine. The position is centered on the clinical care of obstetric patients at UCSF Mission Bay, with opportunities to teach, participate in quality improvement, and contribute to collaborative academic practice.

This position offers scheduling flexibility and may be attractive to physicians who live outside California. Successful applicants are not required to be California residents, but they must hold an active California medical license by the time of appointment.

Why UCSF?

  • High-Acuity Academic Practice: Provide obstetric care at UCSF Mission Bay within a multidisciplinary academic environment supporting complex maternal and fetal needs.
  • Focused Hospitalist Model: Work twelve 12-hour Labor & Delivery shifts per month, with a balanced mix of days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Flexible Professional Options: Interested physicians may also pursue shifts in the OB Emergency Department and gynecology call to maintain surgical proficiency.
  • Specialized Clinical Opportunity: Qualified and interested candidates may participate in the Multidisciplinary Approach to the Placenta Service (MAPS), which provides perioperative and surgical care for placenta accreta spectrum cases.
  • Teaching and Improvement: Teach hospitalist fellows, residents, and medical students while participating in quality-improvement initiatives that strengthen patient care.

The Role

The primary focus is clinical coverage on Labor & Delivery and postpartum services at UCSF Mission Bay. Core responsibilities include:

  • Serving as the attending physician on Labor & Delivery, including acting as primary or assistant surgeon for cesarean deliveries, attending operative and spontaneous vaginal deliveries, and performing higher-order laceration repairs.
  • Providing direct care for patients on the complicated postpartum service and consulting with the nurse practitioner and certified nurse-midwife team caring for uncomplicated postpartum patients.
  • Following up on test results and ensuring appropriate clinical communication and continuity.
  • Responding to obstetric and gynecologic answering-service calls after hours.
  • Participating in quality-improvement initiatives.
  • Teaching hospitalist fellows, residents, and medical students.

What We Offer

  • Faculty appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, with rank and step commensurate with experience and achievements.
  • A distinctive academic hospitalist role with scheduling flexibility and the possibility of maintaining a residence outside California.
  • Opportunities to maintain broader OB/Gyn clinical skills through optional OB Emergency Department shifts and gynecology call.
  • A multidisciplinary practice environment with opportunities in medical education, quality improvement, and specialized placenta accreta spectrum care.

Compensation

The total compensation for this position ranges from $264,275 (Assistant Professor, Step 1) to $345,761Full Professor, Step 7). Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with experience and achievements.
