Setting & Coverage Details

• Setting: Inpatient only; hospital-based coverage

• Coverage Needed: Up to 10 days per month

• Shift: 24-hour call coverage

  • Call Type: Beeper

  • Call Response Time: 30 minutes

  • Call Ratio: 1:1

  • Call Back Rate: 30%

• Minimum Coverage Block: 3 consecutive days

• Weekend Requirement: At least one weekend, Friday at 7:00 AM through Monday at 7:00 AM

• In-Facility Rounding: Up to 6 hours during each 24-hour call period

• EMR: Cerner

• Department Size: 26 beds

• Trauma Level: III

• Support Staff: 5 RNs

• APP Supervision: Required

• Resident/Teaching Supervision: Required

Average Call Volume per 24 Hours

• Phone Consults: 7–10

• Patients Seen: Approximately 6

• Admissions: 1–2

Responsibilities

• Round on hospitalized patients during the day.

• Accept attached and emergency department patients during the shift, including underserved patients.

• Provide ER call coverage for gynecologic emergencies.

• Perform deliveries and provide clinical care for obstetric patients.

• Supervise APPs and participate in resident teaching and supervision.

Teaching Environment

• Family Medicine residents may be on night float solely for required ACGME delivery experiences.

• Residents are not the delivering providers; the OB/GYN hospitalist is responsible for deliveries and clinical care.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Board Certified in OB/GYN

• Active Alabama medical license or IMLC accepted

• ACLS

• BLS

• PALS

• Robotic gynecologic surgery experience preferred
