We are seeking Board-Certified OB/GYN physicians for a high-acuity hospital-based OB/GYN hospitalist role providing 24-hour in-house call coverage.
This is a busy, high-volume practice with strong clinical support and a collaborative team environment. Providers should be comfortable managing a broad range of obstetric and gynecologic emergencies and supporting resident education.
⏰ Schedule & Coverage
- 4–8 shifts per month
- 24-hour in-house call shifts
- Option to work 2 consecutive 24-hour shifts
- Coverage includes:
- Labor & delivery OB services
- Unassigned OB/GYN hospital call
- Emergency inpatient OB/GYN care
🏥 Clinical Environment
- 146-bed acute-care medical center
- Level II Nursery
- Medical staff of ~280 physicians across multiple specialties
- Support team includes:
- 5 Board-Certified OB/GYNs
- 5 Advanced Clinical Practitioners
- Certified Nurse Midwife
Job Responsibilities
Provide 24-hour in-house OB/GYN hospitalist coverage
Manage all labor and delivery patients
Respond to OB/GYN emergencies in the hospital
🚑 Unassigned & Emergency Call Coverage
Provide care for unassigned OB/GYN patients
Handle emergency OB/GYN consults and inpatient admissions
Support urgent clinical needs across the hospital OB service
👶 Labor & Delivery Management
Oversee 70–75 deliveries per month (service-level volume)
Manage labor progression and delivery complications
Perform or assist with C-sections and operative deliveries
🏥 Gynecologic Care
Perform non-obstetrical gynecologic surgeries (20–25/month system-wide volume)
Manage inpatient gynecologic conditions and emergencies
Qualifications
Minimum 2–3 years experience (client strongly prefers 5+ years)
Active Virginia medical license required
DEA required
Certifications preferred:
EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Working Hours
3, Day (12 Hours) 7:00 - 7:00
Shift Details: 8 (24-hour in-house call shifts).
Will allow 2 24-hour in-house call shifts in a row to be worked
Skills
Strong competency in general OB/GYN practice
Proficiency in labor & delivery management
Experience managing normal and high-risk obstetric cases
Ability to perform minor gynecologic surgical procedures
🚨 Emergency & Inpatient Care Skills
Management of obstetric and gynecologic emergencies, including:
Postpartum hemorrhage
Shoulder dystocia
Fetal distress
Hypertensive disorders (preeclampsia/eclampsia)
Ability to stabilize and manage acute inpatient OB/GYN cases independently
Comfort working in a high-acuity, high-volume hospital setting
👩⚕️ Surgical & Procedural Skills
Experience assisting and performing C-sections
Competence in basic and minor GYN surgical procedures
Ability to support operative OB cases in a hospital setting
