Job description Join the Neurology Team at Northport VAMC, on the North Shore of Long Island, New York, and provide evidence-based, quality, comprehensive neurologic care in a compassionate and accessible environment. We are a Primary Stroke Center and participate in the VA National Tele-Stroke Program, offering vascular neurology subspecialty acute ischemic stroke care. The Neurology service at Northport VA conducts an epilepsy continuity clinic through the VA National Tele-Epilepsy Program and also works closely with the VA National Tele-EEG program for ambulatory EEGs and recently implemented on-site EEG resources (Ceribell). Additionally, we work closely within our VISN with specialty providers in the areas of Movement Disorders, Epilepsy, ALS, SCI, Multiple Sclerosis and Neurosurgery.

As a Staff Neurologist, you will be managing outpatients and inpatients/ER on the Neurology Consult Service.

In the outpatient setting, the Staff Neurologist will primarily be precepting residents in our outpatient clinics, seeing patients both face-to-face and by Tele-Neurology. Additionally, the Staff Neurologist, working with the consult resident, will provide inpatient consults. Our facility works closely with our affiliate counterparts at SUNY Stony Brook, not only for higher-level stroke care, but to provide higher-level subspecialty neurologic services for our Veterans. As a teaching site for the SUNY Stony Brook residency program, an academic appointment will be granted for this role; candidates must be Board Certified or Board Eligible working toward certification within a reasonable period.

Northport has 5 Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties and a Sleep Medicine team offering on-site sleep evaluations/full night sleep studies. In addition to Med/Surg inpatient services, Northport VAMC has an active Emergency Department currently undergoing a state of the art renovation. Our healthcare system has an onsite 140 bed Community Living Center, including subacute rehabilitation center. Additionally, treatment beds are located onsite for the Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation program.

Job Responsibilities

Perform comprehensive neurological assessments and review of diagnostic tests (MRI, CT, EEG, lumbar punctures).
Develop individualized treatment plans including medication management, physical therapy, and other consultative referrals, and lifestyle counseling in attention to whole health.
Deliver neurological care consistent with hospital policy, meeting or exceeding community standards and VHA national benchmarks.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records in compliance with VA policies and privacy regulations.
Provide consultations in the Emergency Room, Inpatient Units, and/or CLC during on-call and as a member of the Neurology Inpatient Consultative Service.
Participate in the academic mission of VHA and SUNY Stony Brook through resident education and teaching.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity and high-quality care for our veterans.
If fellowship trained, conduct EMG/NCV, Electroencephalogram (EEG) interpretation, and/or provide subspecialty care.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and assurance programs for the Neurology Service and facility.
Champion evidence-based medicine and peer review processes to enhance care quality.
Share in rotating on-call responsibilities, primarily offsite, supervising the on call resident.

Qualifications

Must be a U.S. Citizen
Board Eligible or Board Certified in Neurology
Holds a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in ANY U.S. State

Working Hours

Monday through Friday 8:00a-4:30p, with rotating offsite call
