We are a Primary Stroke Center and participate in the VA National Tele-Stroke Program, offering vascular neurology subspecialty acute ischemic stroke care. The Neurology service at Northport VA conducts an epilepsy continuity clinic through the VA National Tele-Epilepsy Program and also works closely with the VA National Tele-EEG program for ambulatory EEGs and recently implemented on-site EEG resources (Ceribell). Additionally, we work closely within our VISN with specialty providers in the areas of Movement Disorders, Epilepsy, ALS, SCI, Multiple Sclerosis and Neurosurgery.
As a Staff Neurologist, you will be managing outpatients and inpatients/ER on the Neurology Consult Service.
In the outpatient setting, the Staff Neurologist will primarily be precepting residents in our outpatient clinics, seeing patients both face-to-face and by Tele-Neurology. Additionally, the Staff Neurologist, working with the consult resident, will provide inpatient consults. Our facility works closely with our affiliate counterparts at SUNY Stony Brook, not only for higher-level stroke care, but to provide higher-level subspecialty neurologic services for our Veterans. As a teaching site for the SUNY Stony Brook residency program, an academic appointment will be granted for this role; candidates must be Board Certified or Board Eligible working toward certification within a reasonable period.
Northport has 5 Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties and a Sleep Medicine team offering on-site sleep evaluations/full night sleep studies. In addition to Med/Surg inpatient services, Northport VAMC has an active Emergency Department currently undergoing a state of the art renovation. Our healthcare system has an onsite 140 bed Community Living Center, including subacute rehabilitation center. Additionally, treatment beds are located onsite for the Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation program.
