Physician Leadership Opportunity in Southeast Alaska

We are recruiting an experienced Medical Director to lead a Primary Care/Family Medicine program serving a Native/Tribal community in beautiful Southeast Alaska.

This is not a purely administrative Medical Director position. The physician will remain actively involved in patient care while providing leadership, supervision, and direction to the Primary Care team.

The anticipated schedule is approximately 75% clinical and 25% administrative, making this an excellent opportunity for a physician who enjoys practicing medicine but is ready to have a greater impact on clinical operations, provider development, and the long-term direction of a Primary Care program.

Position Highlights

Qualifications

Candidates should have:

• MD or DO degree
• Strong Family Medicine/Primary Care clinical background
• Leadership experience within Family Medicine, Primary Care, or an ambulatory clinical environment
• Minimum five years of supervisory experience
• Progressive administrative/management experience in an ambulatory healthcare setting
• Experience balancing direct patient care with leadership responsibilities
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to build consensus and gain staff buy-in
• Ability to collaborate effectively with clinical and non-clinical departments
• Cultural awareness and openness to practicing within a Native/Tribal healthcare environment
• Interest in making a long-term commitment to the organization and community

Licensure

An Alaska medical license is preferred but is not required for initial presentation.

Physicians without an Alaska license may be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to Council approval.

Physicians must hold a medical license in one of the 50 states, District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico. Direct Tribal hires must ultimately maintain a permanent, full, and unrestricted Alaska physician license.
